Shout out to whoever convinced Disney that college sports would have exponential growth over the coming decade. Not only is high-level CFB a regional sport at this point, but the "big markets" are tiny compared to any pro league, with schools in actual big markets competing with plenty of other teams for eyeballs and dollars. While sure, everyone in Alabama will pull for the two big schools there as pro-sports replacement teams, even in a state as football crazed as Texas, it's bad form to root for a school you didn't go to as an adult. The glory days of USC football drawing more eyeballs than most NFL teams died out when LA got an NFL team.

There's very little casual appeal and potential for a fanbase expansion when the team is good. When the Astros got good, most of the state hopped on that bandwagon, but if the Cougars ever became dynastic, not many in Houston would care outside of UH alums. The only time I ever see non-fans watch random teams is March Madness, which may be second only to the Super Bowl in getting casuals to watch an event, but you aren't replicating that in CFB any time soon.

So, either small markets or a barrier of entry to fandom (a barrier that rises every year as big public schools prioritize more out-of-staters and foreigners who tend not to care as much about the school when they graduate), creating a rigid fanbase that doesn't expand much for good performance. What a great idea to expect nearly tripling revenues from over the next decade!

Facts!! Way to keep it 100.

Yeah, the number of North and South Georgians who d*** ride the UGA Bulldogs but who did not attend the school is hilarious.

I remember when UGA won the title last year; I assumed there would be some huge celebration in Atlanta for the team. There was nothing. Silence. No one cared. Then one of my colleagues (who went to UGA) pointed out that so many people in the Atlanta Metro are from out of the area that they have no interest in UGA or its football team. Most of its fans are from outside of the Atlanta Metro.

Dumb question...how can Doc Rivers be an announcer and head coach of the Sixers?

that and the partying went on in athens instead which is a pretty cool college town. in fact people from atlanta drove to athens to do exactly that

reddick is okay but these games are better muted anyway or going through LP and watching the local announcers for the teams

TNT's B team is still better than this.

It's like TNT has a whole farm system that ESPN has never even tried to poach. They'll never get it right.

Good that the Rockets won't be contending anytime soon. By the time they do, hopefully NBC or another channel has taken the rights over ESPN and or TNT.

I thought you couldn’t watch local broadcast LP games that are nationally broadcasted?

If Apple also buys all of the Regional Sports Networks (including AT&T Sportsnet Southwest), so many problems would be solved. But if they monopolize and raise prices beyond cable, we r all screwed.

Regardless, take ESPN away from Disney

Doris Burke and Doc Rivers has to be the worst broadcasting combination of all time.
