Anal Harden took a paycut for Morey. That isn't the behavior of a narcissist. Morey used that to his advantage and ****ed him over. That is textbook narcissism.
Bro Harden isn’t a max guy anymore and Morey knows it. It would be lunacy to pay him like a max player at this point, I don’t care what Morey promised. He’d be a laughingstock if he gave Harden a Max extension.
It's really sad to see. I've been a fan of both Harden and Morey. This was unfortunate and to me completely unnecessary.
Harden is mad because he’s not getting a max contract and feels Morey misled him. If the ownership wanted Morey to give him a max contract they probably would’ve done it by now. Firing Morey doesn’t solve the problem that the Sixers would still have to give him that max contract to make him happy.
Harden thought he was being smarter... imo Harden took 'paycut' to help his brand image. After forcing 2 trades in as many years he was not looking like a professional who wanted to win... so he leaves a lil money on the table for a year (to help the team get quality support) - with the intent on making it up on his subsequent contract. A max contract is gonna run into his toward trajectory so he still gets paid an extra year on the back end... delays getting max for a year (while still getting nice check) - and still gets another max year at the end of the run (guaranteed money) but dude aint all that when it came time to get that next contract... and nobody wants to give him that max deal... cant be his diminishing skills... cant be his crappy attitude (wants to play where he has the 'freedom' to be himself - lol) ...must be Morey's fault. so he opts in for the last year (to get that money nobody else was offering) - and continues to be an ass making demands - when its already been established there's no real market for him - which is why he had to opt in... naw... thats not narcissism... lol
Sure, he won't be happy, but he'll play. It would be "it is what it is, let's play" situation. The main beef is with Morey stiffing him.
It was a great team. You had: one of the greatest offensive players in history in Harden one of the greatest winners in CP3. CP3 leads two franchises in win shares (NO and LAC), and took a third one to the Finals Championship role players who help teams win titles elsewhere: Ariza with Lakers, P.J.Tuck with Bucks proven winning head coach proven defensive coordinator top tier 6th man in Gordon That's a great team, in a conventional sense. What I call BS on is the idea that the team won because of Moreyball, some genius math stuff superweapon that gets you wins with mids and nobodies.
Would you rather be guaranteed to make $47 million for 1 year or $68 million for 2 years? He got more money overall, got his bois Peej and House to join him and he even had a player option for the 2nd year to turn down $35.6 million for a bigger contract. It didn’t come from Philly or anywhere else. He chose to opt in. Sounds like he got an undeserved raise after another dog shiiit performance to me.
James Harden was shocked after his Chinese fans bought 10,000 bottles of his personal brand of wine in just 10 seconds, as fellow NBA superstar Andre Iguadola praised him for a “great move” criticising Daryl Morey during a promotional tour of the country. The 33-year-old American Harden recently joined a live stream on social media with local influencer Xiao Yang, who wanted to show the Philadelphia 76ers guard how quickly they could sell out his new product. Harden launched his own “J-Harden Wines” brand in 2022, to “bring excitement to the industry and turn some heads” with some eye-catching colours and a picture of himself on the prosecco, sauvignon and red wine bottles. Morey was made team president because of his relationship with Harden. Former Sixers minority owner, Michael Rubin, wanted him to bring Harden to Philly to pair with Embiid. After Harden's playoff performance, the Sixers, Morey, and the fanbase agree that it would be an extremely bad idea to give Harden a max contract at his age. Harden will continue to be a distraction until he gets what he wants, a max contract or traded to the Clippers. Firing Morey does nothing to appease Harden until one of those two demands are met.
This seemed to be extremely short-sighted because no player should be above the organization. They age, get injured and decrease in value.
Imagine the future when GPTs and LLMs will write all of the articles about former players sister's unremarkable tweets Has anyone heard from George Niangs great uncle? Hopefully Clutch points will dispatch an investigative reporter
