That 8:03 is what irritates me about Jalen. Low IQ in the paint because in practice he just dunks it. Needs to put in serious reps of counter moves in the paint.

Hopefully with Ime, the 3 and layup only mentality changes.

I mean he absolutely has counter moves. Has a highlight reel of hop steps, europsteps and change of pace in the paint.

He definitely can improve it more.

He's a very coordinated athlete in that regard unlike someone like let's say Sharpe who is more of what many Green detractors think Green is, a high flying athlete with nothing else. We've seen Green on individual plays show immense control with the ball at really high speeds.

His issue more is with making correct reads and strength which often goes hand in hand. Getting pushed around can throw off your train of thought and make you not make proper reads and examine the court as well. As he grows stronger his decision making will also improve on when to yam it and when to pass out or try something else. He has the footwork and coordination to do counters.

He still has stuff to work on, and if he does, his athletic gifts will be enhanced.

Right now he is a good NBA player, to become what he can he has to learn counter moves, and change of pace and direction....I have seen him do it some, so it will come, just takes time.

Watched some new video and Cade looks like a ballhogger. He just wanted to take the ball away from Green.

Ant plays like he's supposed to be the best player. So arrogant, so much potential

Hopefully the US Team gets their act together before the real games start because they didn't exactly look too great out there. I don't really expect them to win, but it's not like I really care - just don't get embarrassed. The upcoming games against Spain and Slovenia could be a barometer.

I’m just very excited for this season. Having a couple of these building blocks now with two years under their belts in addition to our other young players! I just really think this is the year we could see some pretty significant growth. And Jalen…. Who knows…. I think the floor is Devin Booker lite. Not sure on the ceiling. I’ve been wondering lately, if his development could be a bit offset because of the under development of his physical frame. Maybe he truly ascends in year 4 or 5. Obviously that could make the contract situation difficult. I am still expecting 24/4/4 this year. Obviously, that is not a huge improvement on his numbers from last year but as long as we see a better, defensive performance and improved efficiency, the same counting stats would not be a big deal.

I’m a rockets fan . I really want us to be much better this year . I don’t hate green . I’m not saying he will never become a great (or good) player .

but he just was not a good player last year . He really needs to step it up on D .

    0 vorp
    Negative bpm
    Below average ts%

you can argue his teammates were so bad they dragged him down , but I didn’t see him busting his ass out there .

there were many players on our team that had him beat in on-off rating .

he is going to have to change how he plays . His saving grace is how much he attacks , but with that comes the fact that his shot efficiency profile is already pretty good (he’s taking the shots that you like aka 3’s and getting to the rim) … so how are we banking on his efficiency taking a leap ?

are FVV and Dillon brooks really gonna make our spacing that much better ?

I’m a little concerned about jalen as an off-ball player . His corner 3 percentage isn’t good . He’s not getting a lot of his 2’s assisted . Is that a function of the rockets not having good passers ? Or jalen not knowing how to move off ball ?

we can blame Silas , but that’s not an excuse going forward

all I’m saying is for someone people extol as one of the best athletes in the league , I don’t see him using his gifts on both ends . That is unacceptable when you are a 20 win team .

IMO green has something major to prove this year .

we are paying FVV 40 mil . He will be our starting pg

I’d argue kpj would be a better 2 that jalen . Better off ball player , more engaged in defense , and we know he can make some reads if he gets put in that position .

but everyone here is penciling in kpj off the bench or at 3 . I’m not sure Udoka will see it that way . He wants defense . Who is to say that he doesn’t opt to go with Tate or brooks at 3 and start kpj at the 2 . Green can come off the bench and get practice as a primary ball handler . He will need that if we want him to reach a superstar ceiling anyways .

he may turn into a good player this year . And he’s a good player for his age . But he’s not in the top half of sg’s a contending nba team would take . At least he wasn’t last year.

with his athleticism he should be shutting people down . If he’s not committed to it we just picked a guy at number 4 who would love a shot .

Excerpt from : Team USA votes Jaren Jackson Jr. as best player in FIBA World Cup training camp

I count 11 votes, so maybe someone abstained or they forget to include them in the list below :

Because this is a story about a straw poll, let’s briefly review the methodology. The Athletic approached all 12 American players Sunday at the conclusion of training camp for the FIBA World Cup. With the team’s first exhibition game looming Monday against Puerto Rico, we asked one simple question: Who was the best player in camp?

The body of work voters had to consider included one intrasquad scrimmage, two scrimmages against the U.S. Select team, and also team drills on Thursday and Sunday. As previously mentioned, this was a straw poll, so players were permitted to vote for multiple teammates if they chose.

Team USA’s best day by far was Saturday in the scrimmage in which it manhandled the group of younger NBA players, and Jackson made a noticeable difference on both ends of the court. On Sunday, coaches (not knowing about the straw poll) showed players tape of the scrimmage before practice, and Jackson’s highlights clearly made an impression.

Hart, Brunson, and Tyrese Haliburton each received two votes, while Brandon Ingram, Paolo Banchero, Bobby Portis, Anthony Edwards, and Cade Cunningham, who was on the Select Team, each had their names mentioned once.
