There may be an MLB player in there but that player is 5th OF extra innings PH/PR. The problem is Dusty treats him like an all-star starting LF.
I am hopeful for Kessinger just lik I was for Hensley last year. One of these days one will work out. He could be the one !!!
He may only end up at a 5th OF (I wouldn't give up completely on him). Right now, that should be his role in a vacuum. I don't like that Dusty's decisions get put on a player, but think sometimes the FO needs to help Dusty from making mistakes. The Dusty Brigade barely has an OPS above the Mendoza Line for the past 7 days.
Interesting stat: Parker Mushinski's Stuff+ (obv this is off a tiny sample) is third amongst Astros relievers, and his curveball is the highest graded pitch by Stuff+ among Astros relievers.
I like Mushinski. I don't expect him to pitch leverage innings, but he looks to be a very solid 6th or 7th guy in the bullpen
Well, Pena has trade value and Dubon doesn't And neither can hit. I am perfectly happy they kept Pena, but if they had traded him for a controllable all star pitcher I would have been thrilled.
Chas is the third best fastball hitter this season and was 12th in the league last season. Why in hell is he not batting second where he can get some protection. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/lead...pe=batter&pitchType=FF&year=2023&team=&min=10
I thought Pena was supposed to bat 2nd? Chas is amazing with runners on base (1.000+ OPS vs 0.730 with no one on) - would you rather him bat after 8/9/1 or 3/4/5? Side note: is there data that shows that #2 hitters get more fastballs?
He's our 2nd or 3rd best hitter, he should be batting in the first 5. His OPS is over 1.5 batting 5th when he has protection. He's batting close to 1.000 batting leadoff. My point is that you want great fastball hitters to have protection so pitchers can pitch around him. You are less likely to throw pitches way outside the zone, if you have Alvarez or Tucker batting next.
Holy F, Chas's CAREER OPS is 1.6 when batting 4th or 5th in the lineup. He goes roided Barry Bonds mode, when batting cleanup.
5th in the lineup generally doesn't have much protection with 6/7/8 hitters coming up... Also, it's a sample size of like 25-30 ABs. And his "career" involved 2 at bats there prior to this year.
I will say that having him between Yordan and Tucker to punishment managers who bring in a lefty (stupid in itself) to face Yordan sure sounds like the best baseball move.
