I really like this trade. I hope it involves the Mets sending in $30M, but JV should help more this year and next than the prospects even if both prospects are awesome.

I think I would be more upset if I was TEX right now

Mad Max was obviously 2nd choice for them and they still gave up a decent amount with no $$$ being covered.

    Lol stupid Oklahoma south

We gave up two prospects who have done nothing at the MLB level to get JV with his salary nearly fully paid (freeing up money for Tucker & Framber) and people are complaining?

If we would have given up Brown/JP or Chas that would’ve stung. Gilbert/Clifford might be total busts.

This trade was an absolute no brainer for where our team stands right now! Puts us back as WS favorites the next few years!

Dodgers and Arlington had more to give, so JV def said Houston or nobody.

    He showed loyalty

Great to have Verlander back. Really sucks to give up Gilbert and Clifford. Have to see what the $ is first, before complaining.

Does this affect the salary tax at all getting Mets to cover most of the salary or does it just help Crane’s pocketbook? Trying to understand the true longterm salary implications.

For salary cap but not for Crane's wallet.

He should have just resigned here then instead of mortgaging our prospects.

We get the comp pick still I believe, and might as well get paid out of someone else's bank account.

Of all the prospects the Astros have traded in the past 10 years which ones would you consider a loss? Hader for sure but who else? Prospects are not a sure thing. I hated losing Valdez last year but looking back at it it didn’t really matter

That's the big question for me too.

If we're gonna roster maneuver like a team trying to stay under the cap the next 2 seasons, Crane essentially just sold our top 2 prospects. If he uses the money we received to go over the cap this deal becomes a lot easier to take.

Crane has been the best owner the city has ever had, but that would be an extremely bad look. Unless I'm missing something, the Gravemen and Verlander deals should have us over LT this season.

No, they aren't. Well, pitchers do have a considerable more amount of luck, but these were the 2 safest bets we had. It doesn't mean they will be any good, but here's hoping the draft picks from this year and the younger foreign prospects can show they belong too.
