The last time I prayed for a professional sporting topic, Frank Reich still found a man (again and again) in the end zone. Now I pray for other things.
He wouldn't do it without support from the vast majority of owners - but yes he could veto a deal for the "best interest of baseball"
Those JAGs keep turning into Top-5 ROY vote getters, though. Smart franchises should realize by now that our prospects tend to turn out better than the hype (or lack thereof).
But what happened last offseason is just a sunk cost. Whatever happened in the past is irrelevant to what they should do now. The goal is just to make the best decision for the team going forward given where they are, whatever that is.
But all of those guys are very easily replaced. McCormick is rapidly outgrowing the rest but most of those guys are 3-4 WAR guys. Above average but not even all stars, and likely replaceable by someone in the system. The difference between a 2-3 WAR guy and a 3-4 WAR guy is moderate, but the difference between a 3-4 WAR guy and a 5-6 WAR guy is massive. Meyers and Pena are 3-4 WAR guys. Yordan and Correa(before) are 5-6 WAR guys
The majority of the prospects the Astros have actually traded the last several years have turned into nobodies. Did the Pirates get anything from the Cole trade? Andone from the JV trade from Detroit relevant today? The Greinke trade?
They are interested in just about anyone with a plus arm. They were talking to the Royals yesterday and the White Sox about their pen arms. While the Astros would love a starter - they are aggressive looking for another arm. The Astros before the Verlander talks had been trying to get a couple Mets relievers. Other interesting thing I heard is that the Astros would at least consider moving someone like Gilbert for an absolute top level reliever under long term control. This surprised me.
That's probably why the Cowboys have such sustained mediocrity, ego over results. Refusing to make moves in the present because of unchangeable choices in the past is stupid. S**t went wrong because of injuries, it happens, now we need pitching.
Dear Satan, As everyone knows the 'Stros are your favorite team and would flip if we rescued JV from NY en route to back to back championships, please let it be so and done in thy name. Amen. Love, CF.net
"I would like to take a shower, but first I need to turn the water on." What is with these Joe Biden/Donald Trump level observations...... no ****, the Astros and Mets would have to agree on players before making a trade.
