Watch the reunions we are getting are not DHop, Harden, PBev, and Capela but rather Brooks Raley and Kendall Graveman.
Actually I think you do. Despite the risks, pitchers like JV get you to the playoffs and have a much higher chance of success in the playoffs. pitchers like France are valuable and every team needs a few of them to get through a 162 game grind of a season. But thats the rub: he's not rare and not a difference maker. I want both France and JV but if I had to choose - JV all day and twice on Sunday.
In this market, maybe he won't but he absolutely should. I would bet everything I own that over the next 4+ years that Meyers is under control, he will have more WAR than at least 60% of the current top 100 get in their 6 years of control.
It's a legitimate question. Verlander was always regular-season-gold but someone would bring out the kryptonite in postseason. He did finally win a game (if I'm remembering correctly). I don't hold it against him, things happen, but when I knew he was pitching for us in the playoffs I'd always mutter, "Oh, s***," under my breath, and go sacrifice a live chicken to Jobu.
despite France's great season, his secondary numbers still point to him being a #4 starter. Despite a 2.85 ERA, his FIP is 4.18, his K rate is significanly below MKB average, and he has been slightly lucky in BABIP. It may be smart to sell high on him. Besides, with Framber, JV, Javier, and Brown (if healthy) He will be like Garcia and Urquidy last year sitting in the bullpen in the playoffs. I don't want to sell him but would understand it and not be upset like I would be for Chas[/QUOTE] Do you know how many reliable SP a team needs to not just make the playoffs but to win a WS? Four!! So throw around whatever "secondary numbers" you want but right now JP would be a solid #4 pitcher in the playoffs. "It might be smart to sell high on him"?? So there's no guarantee they get JV or any other SP. No idea how Urquidy will do when comes back. He's been our most consistent SP this yr. No idea how Garcia and LMJ will look next year but yes let's go ahead and trade a reliable SP who we control for years (and cheap). As you can see you can't win without SP and it's hard to get and every contending team is trying to add to this area and the price is high (either in prospects or in FA). Throw in after the '25 season we more then likely lose Framber so let's trade a reliable SP. Good grief.
How is there a narrative that an ALCS MVP can't pitch in the playoffs? (Different question for the World Series of course)
You definitely are Meyers biggest fan He's more likely to have a Marisnik type career, than a Chas type career. This comes from a guy who used to think Meyers was the CF of the future.
