He bent this Winter - he was willing to go to 2/86 million which matched what Toronto and the Mets offered. Verlander then got the third year option and Crane made the tough decision to pass. People forget, Verlander looked possibly some in the playoffs and Crane already paid him a season to sit out injured.
If Dana Brown wants to walk after that... we can rehire Luhnow If Phil Jackson can go back to the Lakers and win more rings... so can Luhnow
… but he paid him again after the injury, and he paid off/exceeded all expectations… I guess they’re even in regards to that with some serious funny math.
now it's just 2 years and some change. Crane's ego wants to be the first team to go back-to-back in 20+ years - I hope he sucks it up and gets it done
True… but still has to pitch 140 innings next year for it to vest. Also, it’s not like he’s had too many nagging injuries. He tore the ligament that a lot of pitchers with that much mileage will eventually injure/tear at some point. And he came back from said injury like gangbusters, much like other HOF pitchers have in the modern era. But yes, he had the “discomfort” this year that he sat out for a little and came back strong. Those sorts of old man issues would be the things to worry about. Anybody can tear a UCL or injure a knee regardless of age.
So does he have the same mindset here and just writes off whatever happens in 2025 as the price of acquisition?
I feel like Crane is gonna do something big this deadline, knowing the window could be narrowing somewhat and the time to win is NOW. I feel like they get JV plus one other major acquisition by tomorrow. Could they get Soto and/or Hader too?
With the cost of prospects, they will deplete their depth by trading for Verlander. If you want Soto/Hader, that’s gonna cost big league talent like McCormick, Brown, etc. Are you sure you want to do that?
I heard Brown manned the phones for about 5 mins tonight, got HELLA EXHAUSTED and called it a night in PISS soaked trousers.
Depends on when you’re penciling in some of these guys to be everyday players… and how far away are the OF prospects that are below them in th system from taking their role next year? McCormick solidifying himself as more than just a platoon player this year has to figure into the calculus some… or they also look at it as he’s having a career year and they want to capitalize on his value. Whatever happens (or doesn’t happen), half this BBS will be pissed… you can book it.
