I would bet hard against Whitmore having a better rookie season than Thompson, and he may not even play in the NBA, could be in the G-League. Pretty significant age/experience difference and Amen is much more NBA-ready with his defense, passing, and IQ.

Depends on role. PG is a difficult position to learn, Amen is absolutely not ready.

Whitmore can excel in a more limited role as a finisher. He cuts hard and is physically strong to finish and dunk on people, can shoot decently from 3 and is a disruptor on D, led NCAA in STL%. What he can’t do is playmake in more complex sets, but he can get playing time in a more limited role, absolutely.

Amen may become the more versatile player down the road, but is a few years away.

Rookies who fill a limited role well get accolades. Herbert Jones is a prime example…

Green, Bari and Sengun are all at least decent candidates on paper for MIP. With FVV making max money, I don't think it's likely Amen has a real shot at RoY. Same thing with the packed depth chart at the wings with Whitmore. There's some solid defenders on the roster, but it's extremely unlikely anyone's got a shot at DPOY. That award tends to go to players on winning teams.
