"Culture" from players is so overrated. It's like asking your employees to set the culture of your workplace. Get a Haslem, Battier or Deke at the end of your bench to set the culture. Was Hakeem a culture setter? Was Harden a culture setter? "Culture" is just the excuse used to justify overpaying a bunch of scrub and pretend everythings ok after we win 30 games next season.

The Rockets have been the worst team in the league the last three years. They are still the worst team, but with more bad contracts and less young talent.

 

They have plenty of "young talent" left -- plenty. We were swimming in unwatchable "young talent" not learning how to play professional basketball (or sitting on the bench not learning).

Just an example of really simple selection bias. Nobody remembers the teams with great rosters on paper that failed because of shitty team culture because they never won anything, even if they should have.

The fact the people even think culture happens after wins is this bias literally playing out, lol.

I actually don't mind the Rockets moves - it's better than worst case scenario.

I think once again Rockets MGMT overplayed their hand by closing down Harden option, not being creative with the 3rd pick and had to eat a hubris chimichanga when all of the avenues closed up quicker than expected, but whatever.

Team is better than it was yesterday. It could have been worse.

 

I'll tell you what's not delusional:

1. Ime being a better coach then Silas
2. Ime having a better coaching staff than Silas
3. Fred VanVleet not only being a better point guard then KPJ but Fred VanVleet being a actual point guard.
4. The young players we kept will actually be played at a position and in a offensive/defensive philosophy that actually caters to they're strengths and the overall success of the team.
5. There will be more accountability where players will actually have competition for playing time.


Just those 5 things alone with not enough talent will make them at least mediocre in a tough western conference.

 

Funny its "all about culture" when tanking and salary tax aprons are violently ripped out like lobotomies.

 

Pal, Harden ran away from a Rockets team with a much better present than we have today. I doubt very much that he intended to return now. Harden (once again) flirted with the Rockets to increase his market value.
Personally, I didn't want Harden here again.

 

Obviously not because he didn't even go to free agency. His market value is precisely unchanged.

People who flirted with the Rockets to increase market value are Brook Lopez, Kyrie, maybe others.

That's just a fact, regardless of how you feel about Harden.

My take is that Harden+ whoever would probably immediately improve the Rockets more than Vanvleet next year, and the hemming and hawing about his cost from the last 6 months seems quaint given the $ the Rockets ended up giving out to other players.

But whatever, its over now. Who cares.

 

I don't have much beef about who they brought in and who they shipped out. (I wish they'd kept TyTy and didn't get Brooks. But no big deal.)

I just think that Stone could have squeeze more out of what we had. Maybe I'm overrating our assets.
