After giving out 43 mill a year to our new franchise player is this a playoff team?

When I saw the headline on ESPN I couldn't believe it giving this dude the max....making more than Kyrie! RIDICULOUS

We really need a backup shot blocking, rim protector style 5 that we can use at least situationally. If we can bring in such a person, with some solid coaching I think we win 32+ games this year and then 40+ the following year.

FVV is a really good step as KPJ is extraordinarily mistake prone as a PG. FVV will swing 6 points or so per game vs. KPJ. Running Amen and tyty behind him hopefully the PG rotation is solid.

We just got killed all day long at the rim though, coaching and 1 good situational defensive specialist at the 5 will cause at least another 4 point swing per game.

Those two deficiencies were just sooo glaring, fixing them turn the rockets into an actual pro basketball team.

Kyrie wrecked his own value. I'll bet around half of all NBA teams wouldn't let him on their roster at any price.

We overpaid, but it was the only way we were going to get any good players with our cap space. Toronto was also apparently willing to overpay to keep him ($120M over 4 were the rumors). If we hadn't beat out their offer, most posters would've been criticizing the front office for not getting any good players with our cap space.

Always a lose-lose situation in free agency when your team is as bad as ours has been.

 

The West is too unpredictable that even if we got Harden that would be a non guarantee.

 

Those are both things that could have to at least some extent been fixed before the start of last season. I have been thinking this and said it a few times. It was intentionally left as 2 glaring weaknesses to pile up losses. Hopefully those losses got you a future starting PG or future starting SF or maybe even both. This team may only slightly improve or it may be a surprise and a very fun season after these last 3.

There are plenty of guys in the league getting a lot more playing time than other players who are making much bigger paychecks.
If Amen deserves playing time, Ime will play him. Once Amen deserves to start, Ime will start him.

We need a solid backup center.

 

I don’t think the players are prepared for the difference between Ime and Silas. It took half a season for a championship roster that had been to multiple conference finals to adapt to Ime. And that was coming from Brad Stevens. The difference between Silas and Udoka is going to be very very difficult. It’s why FVV is worth the money. He will be able to tell Green, Sengun, Jabari…this is how it’s supposed to be.

 

We just paid him head, head honcho money.

 

They key is that the young players don't feel it's hopeless here and then leave. I do think the Fleet improves that. It doesn't put us in the playoffs, but it makes us a little stickier.

No , we aren't going to be a play-in or playoff team. We need another center to help Sengun out. The only other option is to increase Garuba's minutes.

 

Probably not but a helluva lot closer. FVV will add 6-7 wins. Removal of Nix from the rotation adds another win. Ime will add about 3-5 wins. So I'd predict about 33-35 wins next season as it stands now.

 

Rockets are still garbage and now have added a new albatross contract.

 

I have had the hunch before, someone who is paid 43 million to play babysitter and probably just play around 28 minutes to accommodate younger players.

I think it is pretty easy to get bored and just do some pretending.

This mercenary plan could backfire but I guess nobody cares about money.....only if it goes to Ariza.
