I think this is a sign that he's on his way out of Houston, If he was part of the long term plan they'd have declined the option, let him hit RFA and matched an offer sheet locking him in for 4 years at market value.

Keeping him on the $1.93m 4th year option makes him RFA next year and it's very unlikely he returns.

I suspect he's gone by the trade deadline ..... if not, its a criminal waste of an asset.

They might also want to keep this year's cap space open, instead of tying it into Martin. Or they went ahead and picked up the option, before Martin pulls off a "Martin recruits A level free agent, in exchange for releasing him out his contract to sign with Dallas" lol
