So much for not exploiting a tragedy for political gain.

 

What's sad is that Minnesota was the first state in the Union to volunteer troops for the Union army. The Minnesota historical society has a Confederate battle flag taken by the Minnesota 1st at Gettysburg when the stopped a charge by the Virginian 2nd corps even though they were badly outnumbered. In the Minnesota state capital there are a lot of paintings of Minnesotan troops fighting in the Civil War.

Even so I've heard from several Minnesotans, including state legislators, that THEIR history is being erased because statues of Confederate generals are being take down around the country. I once told a friend of mine who was ranting about that on Facebook, that as someone who was born in, grew up in a state that was part of the confederacy, went to a high school named after a seccessionist had more claim to Confederate history than he did being born and growin up in rural Minnesota.
