Yeeee Hawwwwwww! An 'Original Pancake House' just reopened in Austin off Parmer Lane! I cannot explain how friggin' awesome this place is for breakfast!!! We used to frequent the one in Redondo Beach California and often had 45 minute waits; but well worth it!
hell yea that place is awesome! we go they're everytime we're in chicago...i heard it was coming to austin...you said it's reopening in austin...when/where was it there in the first place??
Sadly, Kirby Lane has failed every food inspection that I've ever heard them have. Not really a surprise, is it? The OPH doesn't have any TexMex breakfasts (no migas), but they have (by far) the best batter of any breakfast stop I've ever been too. They make giant Dutch Babys which are like having a souffle for breakfast. The giant Apple Pancakes are another specialty (but too much Apple for me). The crepes are pretty tasty, and their pancakes actually have flavor. Coffee is stout (reminds me of Europe). The Eggs Benedict are not outstanding but more that satisfactory. Today I ordered the Eggs Benedict (which come w/ 2 pancakes), an order of Potato Pancakes, and an order of Crepes. http://www.originalpancakehouse.com/ We got there around 9:30 today and there was no wait. By the time we left, people were already waiting outside. Word has already spread.
I don't know where it was before. We bought our Austin home in late 1999 and I think it had just closed. We were most disappointed!
Hmm. Take a look at the menu. They're pretty good w/ most everything they do, but their specialty stuff is certainly batter-based. (Shouldn't you be carbo-loading anyway? )
Why in the world would I be carbo loading?!?! I'm going to be a bridesmaid in November - I'm trying to lose a couple pounds. I'm not playing lacrosse anymore if that's the reason you're thinking.... My arthritis and lacrosse don't get along these days.
Cohen, there's this new place I've been eating at for breakfast/lunch called The 620 Cafe & Bakery. I really like it- they have basically everything on their menu. It's on 620 just W of 35. They're only open 6-3am. Usually pretty crowded. I'll give this Pancake place a try but I don't know if the menu is my thing.
Cohen, The food is awesome at the original pancake house. I just went there the other day. I guess you live pretty close it, I am right @ parmer and N. Lamar (behind the walmart)
Haha well damn! I've always enjoyed it... but I guess I usually go there when I'm too tired/tipsy to care how good the food actually is...
Damn right. I go to Kerbey after going out every weekend. They make a mean short stack and the breakfast tacos are good too. The original Kerbey on Kerbey Lane off 38th is much better than the one on Guadalupe. We hit up the Magnolia Cafe on Lake Austin last night around 3 after drinking on 5th St. I've always thought that the Mag Mud has the Kerbey Queso beat.
No more lacrosse? And what's with athritis young'n; I don't even have arthritis (seriously: have you tried glucosamine & chondroitin?) FWIW, I lost close to 20 lbs in about 6 weeks w/ Atkins. But needless to say, OPH is very anti-Atkins.
Yeah, I've had arthritis since I was eight, actually.... When I lived in my parents house, it was under control because they made sure I took my medicine.... Nowadays, it's a different story - I have major issues with remembering to take them - so I'm only partially under control. I'm not exactly on the Atkins diet though, I'm just cutting down on sodas and carb-loaded junk food. That way, I'm not consuming more crap than my body will use in my "restricted" lifestyle. But that doesn't mean that I won't go out for some OPH in the near future
