Sneaky play is maybe to grab Washington with so many WRs on the board but grab a wildcard like Boutte later. Potential is clearly there for him and going this low puts a chip on his shoulder.
The depth chart looks much better with this position filled. Regardless if he succeeds or not, we can target the best C next year and not sweat it a bit.
I'm not saying I have any insider information whatsoever or that I know the rosters well enough to know whether he could have been had at 65 or not, but by most draft boards, it looked like he was the next best center. It's not completely unreasonable to think another team would need a center before 65 or would trade up to get one. It's not a sexy pick, but again, we're talking about a 6th and 7th rounder here.
My favorite thing about the draft is when posters on here act like they know better than paid NFL GMs and Scouting departments what day 2 players’ actual value is and when a player should/shouldn’t be drafted.
Texans still have...7 picks left lol... Like they had a bunch of draft capital so yeah, if this is the guy they like and could be the only C left they feel like could actually contribute may as well move up for him.
Darnell Washington Jalin Hyatt Kelee Ringo Trenton Simpson Cedric Tillman Drew Sanders Josh Downs Devon Achane Clark Phillips iii Jordan Battle Tank Dell Still some good names out there
The ONLY reason you trade up 3 SPOTS is that you think 1 of those 2 teams will take the player you want or someone else will trade into their spot. Don't know if Den. or Chi. needed a center but after JMS went off the board JS was probably the only center left they felt had a chance to start/compete for this year.
What I know based on a long history of data is that NFL GMs are subject to overconfidence bias and frequently claim to know more than they really do. Excessively trading up is not good strategy.
