Frontier and Southwest are not at all comparable. As big as this complete **** up is, Frontier is a disaster every single day. Also, there is no such thing as a good Airline based in this country. They are all complete trash. United charges way more and is also a total dumpster fire. No matter what airline you fly, its gonna be a shitty time. I'm still gonna pick the Southwest flight because its $40, my bags fly free, and more often than not I'm gonna get free drinks. There is no incentive for any airline to improve themselves, so they will all continue to not give a ****s The boarding signs are every 5 numbers, so its pretty much impossible to ever line up improperly. Its a way better system than having a bunch of people line up for 30 minutes before boarding starts. I can simply stand up and walk right onto the plane when its my number.
Southwest's boarding system is extremely simple, and proven to be faster than all others. The same dorks that you see lose their mind with the SW boarding system at the airport are likely the same dweebs that you see trying to board at Zone 1 for United Flights when their ticket says Zone 3. You can't fix stupid, regardless of the boarding process.
Southwests boarding system should just be broken down into smaller groups. Or those pillars need to be spaced apart more. Half the time ..people are like "oh sorry are you A21....I am A19...EXCUSE ME...EXCUSE ME..........sorry coming through" me: "ma'am it makes no diff. you can still get the first row"
Southwest plans to return to normal operations Friday Updated an hour ago The airline has canceled more than 15,000 flights in just the last week.
man. reading the responses here....not a good look for southwest. Code: https://web.archive.org/web/20221227042621/https://www.reddit.com/r/SouthwestAirlines/comments/zw32yt/psa_from_a_swa_employee_since_the_company_wont/
Agreed - but nevertheless, every SW line I've ever been in has multiple people asking "what # are you?" when they are like 15+ numbers away from where they need to be. I agree with you - it should be super simple.
Probably. I expect total overcompensation to try and regain trust and fix things to prevent a similar situation.
SW is also making this worse for themselves by not re-booking people. I understand why they wouldn't because there was a decent chance they'd just cancel the later flight. But I knew 2 different families travelling AUS to ATL yesterday - one at 6am and one at 3pm. The 6am flight got cancelled around 11pm the night before. Sucks, but OK. But their only option was to rebook for Saturday. The 3pm flight went out on time - and was like 30% empty. They could have made a lot of customers less-angry if they just rebooked people onto that flight, but they created a blanket ban on rebooking people or buying any tickets for these last few days. It's kind of crazy and very much self-inflicted.
They are notably more efficient and particularly after the major carriers started charging for checked bags. Since there isn’t enough room for everyone’s carry on and the fees cause more people to avoid checking bags, there is often a point where a bunch of people have to get back off the plane and gate check.
