I hear Philly has a b/u catcher they hardly use. Garrett Stubbs? Maybe they will take one of the lower level OF prospects for him. Logan Cerny maybe?
All of you wanting to trade for a catcher and/or a CF have you thought about this? If Crane and Bagwell are so bad a figuring out free agents do you really want those two trying to figure out trades? Other GMs have to circling like sharks around those two. Someone is getting Brown.
But we didn’t need him to be all that special nor did he ultimately command an all that special contract. He’s still a significant improvement over Maldy which would’ve helped lengthen our lineup tremendously without giving up much behind the plate. This is the kind of signing we’ve typically been all over. Now we likely end up w a worse starting catcher or an overpay ($ or assets) that hinder us in addressing other holes. This just seemed like a no brainer. Curious what their plan is moving forward.
If Crane keeps getting outbid at the 11th hour it’s got to be ticking him off. Curious what’s going on with Conforto and Benintendi. I could deal with the continued black hole at catcher if we could get an above average bat for LF/DH/CF.
Good defensively and was playing fine up until his injury plagued second half last year. Career .751 OPS v righties with good walk rates.
Yeah - he's the #9 hitter in a lineup filled with all-stars and a pitching staff that is amongst the best in baseball. I think they'll survive.
I can’t believe we didn’t go after Vasquez https://www.click2houston.com/sport...tian-vazquez-agree-to-30-million-3-year-deal/
Okay? They still have the catcher that started over him last year and won the WS, and the catcher that started one or two other WS. Vazquez is an okay starting catcher. He is overall an average catcher… but there is a reason that the Red Sox dealt him and didn’t try to resign him and the Astros exhausted numerous options before trying to sign him and even then didn’t top the twins offer which they could have easily topped.
