Wouldn't have minded Contreras, but was never over the moon at the prospect, particularly at 5 years. Catchers usually age in dog years offensively. I'm not as dead set on desperately needing another bat as others, but certainly wouldn't mind one.
I'm good with that team, although I would prefer that we spend some dollars extending existing talent with the money we are not spending on Verlander or others. Korey Lee and one of Chas/Leon/Meyers will need to take a big step forward for us to improve. Hunter Brown will also need to perform well, which is something I'd expect. I think they can do it. If not, hey we got the trade market.
Friendly contract. That's almost right on market value, no over pay. Thought Contreras would get 21 million per year and it would be worth it for Crane and us. Could be just the idea of the 5th year scared Crane. Or Contreras really liked the Cardinals' jerseys better.
Exactly. The idea that the Astros are ok without making changes while the rest of the contenders are out there making moves is absurd. That’s how you go from World Series champs to a wild card team. There are glaring weakness on this team in the lineup from 7 - 9 that need to be addressed. Lee struggled when he was brought up, probably because he didn’t get much playing time, and he won’t be able to develop unless he’s able to play consistently.
This is where i'm at Contreras is a really good bat, would have fit well at DH when Yordan plays LF No way I would have gone 5 years at that price for him though If we add another bat, that's great...AS LONG as it doesn't come at the expense of trading any of our mlb pitching. Guys like Urquidy and Garcia have way more value than what most fans give them credit for. And moving Brown is a hard no If we can add an upgrade on offense at the expense of Whitley, Barber, Leon, Lee, Dirden or any of those guys....great If we go into the season as is and have room to add at the deadline, that's great also We are the best team in baseball as we sit here today
I think he could be a .600 OPS or so hitter, perhaps better eventually. My point was that IF Vazquez managed to get back to being a .700 OPS hitter, I'd that improvement over Lee worth throwing money at? Especially when you consider Vazquez isn't a long term solution. Wouldn't that money be better spent elsewhere?
They will sign someone like Narvaez or Alfaro... Maybe swing a trade... They are not going to spring with just Machete and the rookies.
