Lovie Smith is known for wanting bland offenses. So what's going to happen? You draft a QB high and then Lovie turns him into a game manager?

Go get a coach who actually knows how to design a modern offense. And hire someone that's not a stopgap.

    Couldn't agree more.

Knowing this franchise, they'll keep Lovie, who was an atrocious hire to begin with, and screw up the draft.

The issue is what head coach would want this job? You’ll have Indy and Carolina at the very least with openings that will be way more attractive. This only changes when ownership changes.

There are only 32 NFL head coaching opportunities. OCs and even other lower assistants are always looking to move up. The Texans just hired a career WR coach as their HC, so it's not like they are opposed to looking outside the traditional pool. Eric Bienemy has been looking for any HC job for years, so people are out there. The Texans have to just go find them and not hire pointless coaches everyone knows will fail.

I don't see it. They're staying with Lovie.

Problem is, they haven't even tried the last two years.

It's like when my 4 year old half-asses cleaning up after himself so I'll just do it.

This team is significantly worse than it was last year. Is the talent level really worse though? It was always my impression that we were pretty much at the same level but with some promising rookies. Was I wrong? If not, why is the team so much worse? The easiest thing to point fingers at is the coaching staff.

Yes, the team is bad. It would still be bad with other coaches. But would it be this bad? You can have a bad roster and still be crappy coach and underachieve.

IMO, Lovie doesn't deserve anything. He's been a coach for a long time and his NFL record is 90-94. He was 17-39 in college immediately before coming to the Texans. The game has passed him by and he's not the kind of guy to adapt. He has a bad team but he's also doing a bad job of coaching. And he's also not the guy to develop and guide young players as we rebuild.

At minimum, do no harm. The team may be bad regardless, but don't hurt them more than they already hurt themselves. Lovie is still hurting the team and it's unfair to the young players you hope will be the foundation of the franchise going forward. He needs to go.

    Exactly. Well put.

This has been my gripe all along. If they're going to commit to the sick, at least hire somebody that can develop players. We're really failing in all aspects right now.

I don't disagree. The Texans can always be counted on to find the worst possible option and take it.

If they draft for defense, keep his ancient thinking ass here until next year.. Don't dare keep him here if they going with a QB in the 1st rd.. There is nothing he can teach a QB but how to be a below average game manager..

Probably would've been better than what they have now.

Why though? Terrible record for the last four years, and for his first three or so he benefitted from the Harbaugh recruiting momentum, as I see it. (Maybe I have the years wrong though.)

Maybe he can convince Andrew Luck to come out of retirement?

    Let's redo history...

Draft Caleb and hire Lincoln... Just like we did 40 years ago with Moon..
