This team is young...and was always going to get better as the year went on. The recruiting has picked up significantly in advance of the move. It's just a matter of time. Now, whether Dana is the right guy to get them over the threshold...that remains to be seen.
Not sure I buy that. Out of 23 starters (I say 23 because we run 5 wide so often) 16 of them are 3rd year or better.
So now we need... UH to beat Tulsa (blowout helps) Tulane to beat Cinci Then pray that the committee ranks us ahead of UCF (provided they beat USF) and Cinci. *In a weird turn of events, it may be better for us if UCF beats USF, because we have a better shot at being ranked ahead of UCF in the CFP rankings than we do being ranked ahead of Cinci (UCF winning would eliminate Cinci from 2nd place via H2H tiebreaker and pit UCF exclusively against UH in the CFP rankings for 2nd place).
It's a convoluted tie breaker, but it seems like our only miracle lightning strike chance is if we get ranked, which seems implausible no matter what we do to Tulsa, and then somehow Cincinnati and UCF get ranked below us. If UCF wins, it doesn't seem plausible we could pass them in the rankings in any universe. If they both lose, there is the possibility that Cincinatti falls out of the top 25 I reckon. but losing to another top 25 team doesn't seem like it would push them out if we somehow get ranked. If we all are unranked, it comes down to computer rankings, and we lose. Because the computer rankings are likely double dicking us with the Committee and on its' own accord. There is only one solution. We have to execute a virus. So it comes down to how good is the University of Houston IT program?
The tiebreaker is indeed convoluted: We know Cinci is going to be ranked. What we don't know is if UCF will be ranked, which is extremely important. Assuming UH wins... If Cinci and UCF lose, it's Cinci vs. UH polls average. If Cinci loses and UCF is ranked and wins, UCF is in. If Cinci loses and UCF is unranked and wins, it's UCF vs. UH polls average. IMO, best case scenario, UCF is unranked and wins unconvincingly while CInci loses.
