0h no. So sad. One of the best humans to ever play in the NBA. Prayers going out to the Mutombo family.
My prayers out to this amazing man and his family. Not only is he one of the greatest humanitarians in NBA history and a Rockets legend - but he helped the Rockets secure their championships before he was ever in the team. may a speedy and thorough recovery be in the cards
Just had an acquaintance pass away quickly after an operation for something similar. My heart is with Dikembe & fam. One of the best people in the world.
My grandma fainted during shopping a month ago and then only had less than a month from brain tumor detection to death in hospice, these things are really scary. Hope they can treat him well, one of the most iconic NBA players and did so much for people in need.
Love Dikembe, and I trust he's getting great medical care and has a good network of support around him. Even aside from his great years on the Rockets, I even loved that old old time when he took an under-gunned Nuggets team and upset the George Karl Sonics in the playoffs. There's that shot of him beaming on the floor and holding the last rebound (or whatever, but he had the ball when the buzzer sounded on the pivotal game I think). It's such a pure basketball moment and such pure unguarded elation, that it still chokes me up a little bit. To take one step back, about 50% of people living in the US are going to get some sort of significant cancer diagnosis within their lives. I don't have a point other than maybe preparing people. It's not a disaster every time it happens. Most households will face it, and it sucks, but there are treatments and a lot of shared wisdom to find out there. To take another step back... things like this really make you wonder, when you see which humans do not get things like brain tumors and which ones do get things like brain tumors.
As someone who has gone through 8 brain surgeries (about to go through #9) and has had over 12 tumors removed…. I know what him and his family are going through and wish him the best…. he will make it through this.
