The Astros GM factory keeps on churning.

While it always sucks to lose talent, when your workplace has an awesome stepping stone reputation attracting new talent is much easier.

Does anybody know what Putila's specific responsibilities were? Is there anyone in place ready to take over?

Not good, but inevitable. Hopefully Click can continue to bring in innovative front office talent.

He dealt with the minor league system a lot, as far as who the coaches are and the methods the Astros use. Also on the scouting side he did a lot with the international free agents. He was/is considered really good at his job and had responsibilities but Andrew Ball will likely take those responsibilities. Ball has a background in scouting and player development.

I personally hope they give Sarah Gelles a chance. I know she has a strong family commitment but she is very bright and capable. Scott Powers is supposedly the smartest person in the Astros front office but doesn't always get along as well with other people as Gelles or Putila did.
