It's like all the worst parts of Levine and Applewhite combined.

I’ve said it before, Holgorsen is a con man. He has the ability to be a very good coach, but he can also leave a team completely unprepared. I never trust him because you rarely know which version you’re going to get. I also refuse to gamble on Houston games for the exact same reason. He’s just too unpredictable.

It almost feels like Dana is trying to get fired. Some of the stuff he's done has been straight up bizarre.

If Dell wasn't on this team we'd probably have 0 wins.

ESPN is like, we have to keep an eye on how bad Tulane's special teams are, and they immediately return one for a TD. lol. It was over there. But then they block our FG attempt on top of it, Then there was 3rd and 21. They run it for a 1st down. Done. And then on 3rd and 11 the Cougars get scared and don't even throw for it. Punt. Game. Over. And that was all in like the first 10 minutes against what most would consider a really bad team playing a 3rd stringer at quarterback.

With five years and two months left on his contract, Dana Holgorsen is not getting fired. There are no conversations among UH higher-ups discussing this anywhere. As of Saturday, October 1, Dana is owed nearly $19.5 million. 2023, 2024, and 2025 are all guaranteed in full – that’s over $13,000,000 before the 60% he is owed for 2026 and 2027.

    It’s not happening.

The home schedule is halfway over, and UH is 1-2 at home. So that’s 9-8 under Holgorsen at home and 7-8 vs. FBS teams.

UH is 19-18 vs. FBS opponents under Holgorsen.

Dana has repeatedly said he does not care what outsiders think, but his behavior on the sideline is now a national story. It reflects poorly on UH, especially at the end of regulation when it appeared he was reacting to fans booing.

Don't remember, but "too long" would be my answer.

Slightly different financial situations wrt the 2 athletic departments, though.

Herman had 3 years left when he got bought out. UH wouldn't be shy to so the same to Dana but they'll probably just let him punt the season and try again with hopefully better recruiting.

UH brass is trying to build the program up still and have taken major steps in doing so. Theyre not going to let bald spot undo all of that.

So you went with stadium nachos, which are 99% of the time horrible, and doubled down by putting stadium "bbq" on them?

    Bold choice.

The problem is that he can undo a lot of those "major steps" if he doesn't turn your ship around fast (and it doesn't sound like he's the man for the job; he certainly doesn't act like it). What meaningful recruits are going to go play for a dead man walking in the Big 12 especially if that dead man acts like a jerk to his team and the fans?

It's part of the vicious cycle of NCAA football. Programs have to constantly appeal to 17- and 18-year-olds in order to stay competitive and any blips on the radar with on-field performance, recruiting, stability, etc. undercut the ability of teams to capture those recruits (see: UT football 2010 - present).

These long-term coaching contracts are a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation. UH wants to play with the big boys which means they have to give out big boy contracts. No coach is taking anything less than a fully-guaranteed deal and every coach wants these monster deals that are getting thrown around by universities. If you miss on those (see: Charlie Strong and Tom Herman) you'd better hope that your boosters are willing to cough up the buyout money and the next big contract that you think will make you competitive.

Pretty much. I get why UH threw the money and contract at him (great season, known name, Big 12 invite and PTSD from Herman/Sumlin/Briles) but looks like he's going to have to feel pressure from admin/boosters to try and turn it around. UH has a unique advantage in that you can rest on your laurels and field a good team because you sit inside the most fertile ground in the country for harvesting football talent. Top it off with NIL deals in one of the richest cities in the country and you'll have no shortage of people like Dana who can mail it in and still produce fairly decently where other coaches have to recruit/try significantly harder.

UH finally has something they were lacking for such a long time. Character. They've embraced the whole Houston culture and it works. The games are fun in a way thats way different from your normal college atmosphere. But they desperately need a winner. UT/A&M have the luxury of a loyal following (A&M) or national brand relevance (UT). UH is still trying to build that. Luckily Sampson has been bringing it in basketball.

You can lessen, if not remove, the financial burden if you fire Dana with cause.

Not out of the realm of possibility. Need to get him liquored up and have a couple of coeds take one for the team.

Lakeisha, Lupita, Anjali, Female Nguyen #3A, Naseem, you're all getting 100 on the Accounting Information Sysems group project but we need you to stop by the Alumni Athletic Center. You too, Ekaterina and Ludmilla, can you show them directions after tennis practice?
