Feels like a 2 steps forward, 1 step back kind of day. It would feel better if there's a prospect mixed in.
will smith is set to make 13 million in his final season. Hopefully Astros aren’t on the hook for that.
Agree, this trade looks terrible. Smith hasn’t been good for a couple of years. 2019 he was great. He is making 13 million this year and next year. Why did we make this trade?
That’s good. I guess no one wanted Odo, even after his solid start. Don’t think we move Urquidy now, we need a 6 man rotation for depth.
I guess time will tell, but all these moves seem like Click is going cheap. Got Mancini - why not Bell or Mullins? Got Vazquez - why not Contreras or Perez? Got W.Smith (who’s been even worse than Odorizzi) - why not Soto? Maybe asking prices were just sky high, but man if he could have paid a little more - these moves all seem mediocre to me…. Like we filled specific holes, but didn’t really upgrade much.
Will Smith is a head scratcher, I guess it was more of a salary dump with a slight hope Will Smith can turn it around
The trade is “weird”, as all trades made by the A’s are. I think Waldichuk can be a good long term player. Montas also had a little less value than fans and the media thought because there are serious injury concerns. If I am a Yankees fan I am okay with the deal, maybe even a little excited but I think long term the A’s win this one.
Astros were very very close to sending Jake to St. Louis for the big Cuban the Pirates got for Quintana. At the end of the day, the Cards just slightly preferred Quintana.
Price is high from the sounds of it but the deadline is tomorrow. Perhaps he should have waited to see if price tag drops. But then again, maybe he didn't want to take the chance of waiting until tomorrow and missing out on everyone. Maybe had he waited until tomorrow, Mancini or Vasquez gets traded elsewhere/O's or Sox change their minds on a trade or the asking price.
