Josh Bell is still the guy that makes the most sense to me for the Astros.

Stick Bell at DH with Yordan in LF and Gurriel at 1B. When Gurriel needs a day off put Bell at 1st and Yordan at DH. When Brantley comes back you maximize the lineups based on matchups and you always have a solid bat on the bench for key pinch hitting duties.

Then get one more bullpen stud.

Castillo and Soto are longshot dreams but if it happens awesome....

I personally would love to acquire an offensive OF and move Tucker to CF, but they have been crystal clear they don’t see that as their best option. Maldonado at C and Tucker not in CF is emphatically what they are going with

I think Meyers has a chance to be a good CF, but he rarely walks and has a long way to go if he is going to be what many think he will

Like Ive said What would it cost for Josh Bell and Kiebert Ruiz?

It really looks like the Nationals are gonna rip up there current blue print and start all over

adding those two players gives us a big leg up towards the Future
Resign Bell if Yuli wants to come back he is a utility guy.
Ruiz can learn from Maldy and we can have everything and more going forward

I’ve been driving the Meyers is a First division regular quality CF train for a year and been telling everyone to chill out and wait for Meyers to come back and be will stabilize our lineup.
All that to say I’m not a hater and have some belief in him. That said- his career as a starting CF is going to be short if he keeps up with a 30% K rate and a 4% walk rate. That can’t play absent insane power. He’s got good pop but not enough to carry that kind of BB/K ratio.

Castillo is much more possible than Soto cause we could include one of our mlb young pitchers in the deal and Castillo would replace him

Our odds of getting Soto are about 0.00001

I’m 100% down with giving him a shot to be our long term CF, but if we can make a deal to upgrade for this year we should

Problem is the CF trade market is bad and we have no other options to move to CF

We sort of got lots of options. Chad and Siri are both probably 2WAR guys and imminently playable to get to the playoffs (Siri’s glove is good enough to carry him to 2 War by itself imo) plus Leon might catch lightning in a bottle. It’s likely the Astros have 4 guys in the org who might be better than whatever flotsam is on the trade market at CF this year. It’s brutal.

A thought if the Nationals go full bore rebuild.

    Would you except this offer?

    Patrick Corbin
    Kiebert Ruiz
    Josh Bell
    and Prospect
    T.J. White

    for
    Colin Barber
    Pedro Leon
    J.J. Matejevic
    Alex Santos
    Tyler Whitiker
    Jose Siri
    and
    Jonathen Bermudez

    We then ship
    Jake Odorizzi and Petr Solomon
    to the Cards for
    Zack Thompson and Alec Burleson

    and last
    Recently Acquired
Patrick Corbin Forrest Whitley and Jose Urquidy
    to the Orioles for
    Grayson Rodriguiez and Carter Braumler

And yes I understand the last one is hard to swallow for the Orioles but they need SPs and this could push them to a playoff team

Yep, and that situation is never gonna come up again with the NL having the DH

That was all about getting Yordans bat in the game

At this point I would think if the Astros shopped Odorizzi he would generate a lot of interest and bring back a decent 2nd or 3rd tier prospect.

The Orioles aren’t gonna give up the top pitching prospect in baseball for a package centered around Urquidy. They’d laugh and hang up the phone if we came to them with that offer. They’re playing with house money this year, it wouldn’t make any sense for them to blow up their future for a chance at making the playoffs a year or two before schedule.

Makes sense now why I was told last week they want a corner outfielder. Let’s hope Brantley comes back but the good news is the Astros should be able to get a solid outfielder.

I would still go hard at Bell to play first.

He's a young guy who probably hasn't played 100 MLB games. Give him some time, he will figure it out.

I think Myers is at maybe 85% with a still uncertain prognoses. His power at the plate and his defense both show signs of his injuries. If he can get back to 100% he may be able to hold on to the CF job. Myers at 85% is better than McCormick or Siri but will certainly be passed up by Leon or Barber.

If they get a corner outfielder, what happens if Brantley comes back?

depends who the corner outfielder is. if it's a stud, kyle tucker (or him) will play center.

Wonder if the Cards would do Odorizzi and McCormick for Dylan Carson?
