Don't worry, young one. He's a top prospect and shooting was one of his his key strengths. Don't let summer league panic you.

Not worried about his jumper really. But his offensive skillset as a whole is very lacking for what is considered a #1 draft prospect.

What are their FG averages again? I like how you take the trouble to list the stats but ignore the elephant in the room.

Shots aren't falling, but the guy is proving he is better than advertised on defense.

    Houston got a steal.

Had his shot (which is widely regarded as elite) been falling, people would have been talking about Jabari Smith like he was Kawahi Leonard.

Feel lucky, that you got a player who doesn't need to score well to play well. Those are very hard to find.

We all saw his shot, its flat. It will get fixed.

His shot didn’t look good. It’s possible last year was an outlier and he’s not the great shooter we expected, but it’s also possible that he’s just off. Too early to say. His defense was very good. I think he will be fine.

he's a great shooter. maybe he's not used to the new distance, the speed of the game, or anything else that is very different between the NBA and NCAA games. He'll adjust.

last year the same people were calling Jalen a bust until about February. it took him half a season to figure it out, and jalen is a tier above anyone in the '22 draft as a prospect. Jabari might take longer, maybe the whole season to figure it out. but the kid is 19 and he's got plenty of time. he's also got a great work ethic and seemingly has his head on straight. he will improve with time. and he will be a very good 2 way player from day 1. maybe elite in a couple years.

some people here think you can just draft shaq and Kobe in their primes and compete right away. it doesn't work like that. kids take time to develop. you also can't compare against more nba ready rookies. herb jones was a better nba player than jalen until February, then jalen surpassed him and will never look back. there are other players in the '22 draft that are better than jabari is today. they might be better than him for the rest of the year. some might be better than him for a couple years... but eventually jabari will be one of the top (if not the best) player from this draft. a great example of this is Keegan Murray. he's better than Jabari right now. he's also 3 years older. Keegan might even be better than jabari next year. that's ok too. in 3 years when jabari is as old as Keegan is today, he will be the better player.

you have to evaluate the draft based on what guys can become, and how likely it is that they get there, not just what they are today. a good scout can tell you which player is better right now, but a great scout can tell you who will be better in 3-5 years. it seems there's a lot of good scouts on here. lets try to be great scouts.

Jabari must be the first shooter to have a stretch of 5 games where 3 of them can be considered bad shooting nights, one being slightly below average, and another being excellent.

His shot will look just fine when playing with real NBAers and not and1 "off the backboard" basketball Nix. He'll practice more NBA level 3s leading into the season, and are yall acting like this 5 game stretch has never happened to a shooter before will be eating crow

What elephant? Ohhhhh, FG %... But you said in your first couple of sentences that you were not worried about his shooting. That he was great in college and it should come around. It's not verbatim, but kinda exactly what you said. If I'd known it was about FG % I would have just laughed at the fact Duren, at this point in his career, gets nearly all of his points off dunks, oops and put backs. This we know. Obviously FG % will be better.

You said outplayed. Hence the stats. Which they speak for themselves as to who is being outplayed. On D alone Jabari has outplayed him. Durens at 3 boards a game. C'mon man.

BTW, did you notice I did not originally bring up Jay Huff? Because you said he was shooting better. Which he is. Although not sure why you even brought it up, because your not worried about Jabari's shooting. Right?

So your not worried, you trust he'll get better. Your calling him out, questioning his game, but you hope he'll get better.

    Ok. What elephant again?

I just watched this dude put up another masterclass in defense, you guys are focused on the wrong thing.

We just drafted a multiple time all-defensive team stud. His shot, whenever it comes, will be fine.

If I was given 100 chances to draft Jabari Smith or Evan Mobley, I would draft Jabari in 99 of them. The one time I draft Mobley is if we didn't get the 2nd pick in the 2021 draft.

Dead legs can cause flat shots.
But also mentioned in last season's Green shooting woes that no newbies to the nba, who were excellent shooters from 3, did well from three until late late in the season. getting used to the new distance and the ball were all plausible as to why every rook struggled with the 3ball.

Some guy on Reddit sat next to Jabari’s dad last night. Jabari’s dad wasn’t happy with Jabari’s shot and he said “he’s just in his head overthinking and trying to adjust his shot as the game goes.”

One interesting tell about how FT% being a loose predictor of someone's future shooting; even though KD's 3FG% was bad rookie year, his FT% was still good at 87%. Being near 90% is crazy good.

2021-22 Rocket season: Discounting the bench guys, sorting by FT% in descending order, the guy who have good FT% were our 'shooters'.

    Green: 79.7%
    Mathews: 79.4%
    Gordon: 77.8%

    ----------------- 77.5% league average
    Christopher: 73.5%
    Sengun: 71.1%
    Tate: 70.7%
    KPJ: 64.2%

Rest of guys are all below, which is not great. If FT% is a future indicator, outside of a handful; not a good sign for our squad.
