• Jae’Sean Tate’s new three-year, $22.1 million deal can only be described as a win-win for all parties. The exact parameters, as The Athletic understands, are as follows: 2022-23: $7,065,217 2023-24: $6,500,00 2024-25: $7,065,217 (team option) In each of the years, Tate has a $500,000 bonus assuming the Rockets win 35 games. Teams had been monitoring Tate’s situation for some time, but Houston had always maintained a preference to hold onto him, seeing him as an integral part of their future. Tate will be 27 by the time the new season is underway, so his age would already dictate his veteran status, but it’s still astonishing that he’s only entering his third season. Still, Houston sees him as an important vet who will help the rookies and younger players continue to adjust and grow. In addition, at roughly $7 million per, Tate’s new contract doesn’t eat into the Rockets’ cap space and still gives them flexibility going forward — especially with the team option in Year 3.

So like plenty of others I rolled my eyes when this signing was made, and couldn't understand why he was still on the team this season. I didn't dislike Tate, but he seemed like just a guy with no real role on the club. At best a salary matching body. Now that we are seeing him on a real team, this contract is an absolute steal for the 2 way energy he brings. Gotta give Stone and co. credit for this one.
