JG is a good pick. If he can shoot better and be more defensive minded, he'll be an all-star. He has an Alpha mindset which is good. Rockets just need a better coach. If Silas doesn't improve, get rid of him immediately.
Ivey is more mature than KPJ and I'm rooting for Kevin all the way. Ivey looks for steals right now. That's not enough. He does have good defensive potential with his quickness and length which Paolo lacks to a certain extent. On the other hand, Ivey is more of a 2 than a 1, whereas Paolo is a specialist 4. I do think Jalen Green is more creative than Ivey. I think Stone will show patience with KPJ, and that's the right thing to do. Go Houston Rockets!
I don't disagree and think he was picked fairly at 2. I don't think he's Evan Turner... The point was the biggest reason we're terrible is our defense and other players might be able to help better toward winning. What i don't want is Green scoring 30 a night for a team that wins 25-30 games a year. It's pointless if his play isn't toward winning basketball... I'll take a player with 20% less offense and 100% more defense. The hope is Green develops on that side. I just worry it will never happen. Age isn't an excuse when guys his age and younger are 2 way players in the nba. He needs to improve and i hope he does. Better coaching will help. The coaching staff is a fat f on defense and I'm glad to see some turnover in the staff. Silas gets a B- on offense. He has a young roster and produced mediocre offensive production...
Green lacks the physical tools and the defensive capability of Barnes and Mobley. I do think Green will become a consistent and capable defender in a couple of years for his position once he gets stronger. He's shown that he is already making good progress , because of his determination and IQ.
I don't disagree but it isn't a guarantee. I think the key for him is to get a defensive wing who can space next to him and take on the harder assignments for now similar to how they used Harden and Ariza... Move Green off ball to the spot up shooter and cutters... ease him into the on the ball assignments...
Having a defensive wing who is a respectable shooter is a must at 17. I do agree with your last paragraph. I don't think Green will start neglecting defense. Strength and stamina will improve with time and more experience.
no regrets. green has super high upside. not taking anything away from mobley. he's a very special player. but at the time of the '21 draft those two were pretty close. no one thought barnes was in the conversation and its not fair to put him in because of hindsight. a year ago if you looked ahead to the '22 draft you'd see mostly F's and C's at the top. the lone guard was Hardy. again no one was putting ivey that hight last year. it made perfect sense to go with a super scoring guard last year thinking/knowing there was a big man pairing coming in '22.
Happy with Green, he showed good growth and potential after the ASB. I can't wait to see what his sophomore season looks like and what he adds to his bag.
Suggs was certainly not the BPA with Barnes on the board, even Kuminga or Wagner should have gone before him
I don’t know if Green will be better than Ivey for sure but there’s no way I’d trade Jalen for #4 to take Ivey. I also don’t know for sure that Mobley will turn out better than the 3 bigs but if I were Stone I would probably sprain something accepting the trade if Cleveland called offering Mobley for #3.
I think that's a fair assessment. I think the upside of Green is higher but i think an Ivey/Mobley or Barnes combo leads to earlier improvement as more complete players at this stage. I think people have a tendency to underweight the defensive side of the ball despite being half the game because it's harder to see good defense translate on a stat sheet relative to offense...
If you saw all the mock drafts leading up until the draft you would see different. You are Monday morning quarterbacking. Scottie Barnes barley started at Florida State. Started 7 of 24 games Suggs went to the finals vs Baylor as full time starter.
The only regret the Rockets should have about Jalen Green is prioritizing Porter's development. Imagine Green being the focus since day one.
