Oh boy. I hated the original. It was muddy and uninteresting. But I will give them credit for trying and sticking to the original cast even if that's a bad idea.
It was hyped to be the next Star Wars, with toys, comics and video games. It was a hit at the box office but not to the level they wanted, so no sequels.
Never Ending Story was very good tho'. I'd put that a couple of tiers above Willow. I did not see the never-ending twist coming, and I had no idea how it would end. It made me think. But also, me be very young at the time too.
I liked Willow as a kid. However tried to watch it with my daughter last summer and we turned it off halfway through.
Showed it to my oldest a few months ago. She thought it was worth 1 watch but that's it. It's nothing special by today's standards but as a kid there wasn't much fantasy and I enjoyed watching it. I personally found it better than similar attempts like Neverending story which didn't match the magic of the books. However, it's also somewhat dated as a movie both as storytelling and one main female character that comes to mind, just FYI.
From what I understand, he won't be in the series but his character's presence will be felt throughout. Willow is an interesting film. It's a fun, fantasy movie but it also tries too hard to be the entire (and a far inferior) LOTR trilogy wrapped up into one movie. I wasn't pining for a sequel series, but it does look like it could be some nice family fun.
