Tilman Fertitta: Rockets expect to make ‘big move’ by 2023-24 season

Big moves come by having flexibility.

Don't like Tilman or his approach here.

We should be aiming to be top five pick bad next year and MAYBE using cap space in offseason after if there is good opportunities.

 

I can understand the justification behind the delay and appreciate the effort here to make those little changes. And it's not so much a knock on you so much as it is a knock on the industry itself and how headlines too often tend to be misleading. I genuinely enjoy reading your work and appreciate your efforts to cover Houston sports—I'm sure it's an exhausting job at times.

 

Oh boy here we go. I would've been more surprised if Tilman didn't try to sprinkle some vague hype.

My assumption is that he means we will use all of our cap space we'll have then on the best available players with the best fit. Our draft pick that year and 2026 will be owed to the thunder so there's no upside in losing. We'll just have to grow and develop with the Nets picks.

 

I think it's smart to say what everyone knows. It's not tampering to go out and say we're putting ourselves in position so that if a disgruntled player or free agent want a new situation we're going to be ready with a nice young core and payroll flexibility.

Might make some guys start thinking like what brought T-Mac to us...

 

The one problem in this scenario is would Elon move the Rockets to Austin?

His "big move" better not be to try to move the team to Seattle. That would be a kick in the balls to the city of Houston.

 

Team offices and facilities will move to Dubai and team will do 10 home dates a year in Houston.

 

Sounds good to me, and what I hope is the plan. We consolidate a bit this offseason and add another core piece or two in the draft. This is the season Silas needs to demonstrate he’s the right guy and he’ll be judged my how much improvement the team makes next year; wins will be the key metric. He’s starting pretty low so there’s plenty of room for improvement. Then next offseason we are flush with cap space, and more desirable to free agents and disgruntled stars who want out of their cities.

Maybe Tilman learned from the Westbrook fiasco that he needs to actually follow his advice and shut up, and listen. I am hopeful that WB was a wake up call and now he will let the people who know basketball make the decisions.

 

The only big move I'd like to see if Tilman selling the team.
