A few months ago a piece on espn mexico had an interview with a former mexican football exec that mentioned some interesting things. Allegedly conmebol and the mexican federation had an agreement in place for mexico to join conmebol with the possibility of u.s. soccer to follow at some point. Everything was set and Julio Grondona even had the ok from Joseph Blatter but ultimately Jack Warner and Chuck Blazer killed the deal by uniting the Caribbean bloc of concacaf against it. The deal would have taken away 2 automatic qualifying spot from concacaf and given it to conmebol. This was all around the time of the 2006 qualifiers. I dont think u.s. soccer would have taken that deal tbh but i sure would have loved to see it.
Combined with COMNEBOL - like the EUROS.........only called THE AMERICAS......for North, Central and South America.....the Gold cup can die....as far as I am concerned. DD
It's done...Russia kicked out of WC qualifying, Russian women's team kicked out of Euro's, Spartak Moscow kicked out of Europa League.
Wow - FIFA finally does something right...these kinds of things will trigger the average Russians who are already against this war to begin with..... DD
Late - as usual, and not out of intrinsic motivation - as expected. Fifa could've won a little bit of sympathy by going straightforward on Thursday or Friday, but basically were give no other choice when the federations of Poland, Czech Republic and Sweden announced, they wouldn't compete against Putin's puppets under any circumstances. So the warmonger can't visit the slavedriver come November. Hilarious.
