Isn't this the plot of a recent movie?

Washington still had one an hour or so ago. A friend texted me about the eruption early this morning and I thought it was going to be a disaster for somebody. I know that parts of California were getting waves 4 feet above normal, but I don't know how widespread or where that was.

Yeah I read about it this morning but didn't realize how large the eruption was -- the shockwave in that gif is nuts.

Yeah, I saw a satellite image of the eruption this morning -- not sure if it's the one you posted, but the first thing I thought was how much power must be behind that eruption to shove that much ash from the under water that high. I don't know what the depth of the volcano is, but still ...

NSFW audio, but the audio is what it's really about (I'm guessing it's real) :

Waves look like you're in a bathtub :

The Baker underwater detonation at Bikini Atoll. The large WWII aircraft carrier, the Saratoga, was in it and didn't sink. My father served on her for a time during the war. I think there were something like 90 warships anchored for the test. The Navy wanted to see what it would do to them. They found out.

There is a great Nat Geo special about those tests that came out about a year ago.
