Jalen Green with his first bad game after his injury. Sad to see but not surprising since we got Theis starting.
Well, he had a nice stretch of a few games where he managed to be a one way player, tonight was a setback. Hopefully he can bounce back.
Two steps forward and one step back. It's his rookie season but when he doesn't have it going offensively, he just floats out there.
That was the gripe in the beginning too. You had to find a way to complement his game with defenders, allround players who are dogs. He fixed his shot and found a way to go to the rim more. The team is fuked anyway.
I'm encouraged by his drives to the basket, he isn't living and dying by the 3 as much. Green getting to the line 8-9 times per 36 for the rest of the season would be a solid foundation for a future 30ppg scorer like many experts predicted.
Shooting bricks is contagious Theis bricking all night made JG shoot bad Honestly, though, he missed two layups that he normally makes every time and his 3 point misses didn't look particularly off the mark One game is nothing to worry about

The total body of work is what goes into account here. The top four stay the same from our initial rankings for a few reasons. […] Speaking of the Rockets’ No. 2 overall pick, Green stays steady in the rankings after a lot of time out due to injury then returning like gangbusters statistically and averaging 22.3 points on efficient scoring in his first four games back. Why did he stay at No. 10? Well, have you seen how much better the Rockets have played without him? Again, all caveats aside here, but Houston is 18 points per 100 possessions worse than its opposition with Green on the court versus only one point worse than its opposition when he’s off the court. Part of that is certainly noisy, as it hasn’t helped Green to play next to another inefficient, porous defender in Kevin Porter Jr. for a large portion of his minutes in the starting lineup. But it’s tough to ignore how much better Houston has been simply substituting what Green has brought as a creative offensive player for someone like Garrison Mathews or Armoni Brooks, pure floor spacers who play within themselves and generally at least stay responsible on the defensive end. I always expected Green to have a relatively poor rookie season in terms of impact on his team’s bottom line, so I’m absolutely not panicking here if I’m the Rockets. His shot creation has translated in flashes due to his athleticism. I think he’s going to average 20 points per game for a long time in the NBA. But it’s tough to ignore the team going 8-7 in the 15-game stretch he missed, then going 2-20 in the games he’s played. Given how much I account for team success when a player is on the court and scalability of skill set toward team success, it’s tough to move Green up right now.
A couple things about Booker..... first he was the #13 pick and not the #2 pick, so the expectations are very different in that regard. If Green were the #13 pick by the Rockets, people would be very excited. Second, while Booker is very good, he isn't a franchise player and you aren't going deep with him as your best player. Having said that, Booker would not be a bad outcome for Jalen Green.... Booker is a very good scorer and three point shooter.... he just isn't much of a playmaker..... however I also think that Green has a chance to be better than Devin Booker.
If Green just matches Booker's skillets, he'd be better automatically because he is a more gifted athlete. So a more athletic Booker would be a good and reasonable outcome for Green.
Green has ways to go to live up to the expectations of #2 plus the unfair expectations of being taken before Mobley and Barnes. I am filled with optimism due to his play making abilities. You can see the early makings of an elite drive and kick out game. His first step and quickness is among the best, but his handles and decision making are still lagging.
This writer sucks. If he really followed the Rockets he would know that Porter’s defense is really good and that the reason we sucked with Green to start the season was on Theis/Wood and the win streak was schedule driven more than anything.
At the end of the day results matter most. If he can lead a team to one WCF appearance like Melo did in Denver, then I would say the pick was not that bad. I know it is not a great accomplishment, but there are worse scenarios.
I agree. And definitely, you’d expect a higher ceiling from a #2 pick versus #13—It’s hard to tell if Green can be that franchise player but hopefully he can. I’m less concerned about the wins atm and just want to see improvement from these young guys which I think we have. Just for fun though, since we mention expectations based on pick, where would you pick Booker knowing what you know now if we redid the 2015 draft?
Probably second oddly enough. It wasn't a terribly good draft and some of the more talented players have been hurt (Porzingas).
1. Still people desperate here to jerk themselves off with their Pro-Mobley narrative. We get it, shut up. 2. Poor job last night by the team and coaches to involve Green enough. 3. Green is probably (right now) not far off from being an equal playmaker/passer to Booker. Silas would rather use Tate or Gordon. Green should be getting reps in the PnR. 4. Green is improving a bit on defense, if you actually watch the games.
