I'm fine with it. Maybe not 100% but it'd be hard to kick him to the curb right now. If Espada got the job we'd take turns ripping him on moves next year.
I’m just relieved that it’s a 1 year deal and not a 2 or 3 year deal. We will never truly know how this team would have fared with another manager at the helm… but on the surface Dusty has done a solid job, all things considered. I’d have to imagine that by this time next year, we will be ready to move on from Dusty. I can see why Strom wanted out and my guess is that it absolutely has to do with their decision to bring Dusty back. But who’s to say if they brought in another manager that Strom would still want to stay? I guess it depends on who they brought in.
I don’t think Stroms’ departure has anything to do with Dusty staying on. He’s been vocal about retiring for a while now, and has had his foot half out the door for quite some time. He nearly didn’t return for 2020 and Hell he’s 73. Correlation doesn’t always mean causation and I wouldn’t read anything into his exit unless he actually referenced something to that effect, otherwise it’s just blind speculation.
I feel like Strom was already set to retire. This Dusty resigning has nothing to do with strom leaving.
In all of these years Dusty's never won a championship. I wouldn't expect him to win one next year. Hope I'm wrong.
Take this for what it's worth... my good friend knows Brent Strom. Her son is a really good high school/college player. Unfortunately he just isn't big enough. Strom has worked at camps he had been at in Texas. Anyway, my friend was at a wedding last night and the Stroms were there. His wife told her that Strom is not necessarily retiring and has at least 1 year left in him, but didn't say what that "1+ year" would involve. He and Baker DO have a good relationship and if there is a problem it's with his (Strom's) salary.
