Free Agents Carlos Correa Dusty Baker Zack Greinke Justin Verlander Ryne Stanek Kendall Graveman I think is a Free Agent, Astros must sign him at least
Can't blame this loss on Baker and if not for his moves in game 5 we might not have gotten to tonight. I said this before but Dusty was brought in following the scandal as someone who was universally respected, had gravitas, and would be liked by the players. He was meant to both hold the team from falling apart from being so hated but also represent the Astros to the rest of the baseball world. He has done all that and more. Of course he's made mistakes but without his management and presence I don't think we would've gotten to either the ALCS last year or the WS this year. Dusty Baker has given a lifetime to baseball and if this is it for him he will likely have an easy route to Cooperstown.
Dusty Baker is the last person to blame for this imo. He offered a lot to this team. We scored 0 runs lol. Playera gotta look in the mirror for that one.
Dusty is a pretty terrible manager but will be back because Crane likes him and Click, the GM, doesn’t get to pick his own manager.
Baker in some ways deserves a pass for this ending. Who the hell were we gonna start? Can he just "manage" the team to hit? The other way I look at it is they just had a lack of fire. This team didn't seem to play off each other like before. Dusty kind just stood on the far side stairs chewing his toothpick. In game adjustments were questionable.
It probably doesn’t manager who our manager is in this series with how poorly we hit, but that doesn’t mean Dusty should be brought back when there are better alternatives.
Joe Espada is name that gets thrown around when other teams are searching for a manager. If the Astros wants to hire within the organization, he's up next.
John Smoltz said Odorizzi should start Game 6 during Game 5. He can manage players, but I don't think he is good at pushing buttons.
And how do you know he is a better Alternative? A guy who has never managed in the Bigs vs a guy with 2000+ wins in the Bigs?
If Brent Strom is retiring, the Astros pitching won't be the same. Brent Strom is the biggest Free Agent
He said he wasn't retiring. Could potentially look for other job opportunities but said he won't be returning to Houston. Said he made up his mind and told Click a month ago. Feels the 2 other pitching coaches did a good job and felt if he stayed longer, teams would have gone after them. Also said alot of his pitchers are gone besides McCullers. Made it seem like he gave credit to the other 2 regarding the current staff. As for the other coaches, if Baker stays do we lose Joe Espada eventually? Is Cintron still with Houston? I don't think he leaves. I can't see other teams being interested. Do they keep hitting coach, Snitker? Put up good numbers but was also inconsistent. *are both Cintron and Snitker the hitting coach? If so replace 1 of them?
