    On-air talent (and some behind the scenes people) typically have to sign non-compete clauses to work in TV and Radio. So she legally couldn't work at another Houston-area TV station until the allotted time was up (usually 6 months to 2 years).

    So what probably happened was she was originally offered the job a long time ago and they held it for her until her non-compete clause was up or she took the first job that came available as soon as her clause was up.
