Jerseys numbers have a stigma behind them based on players that wear them. Kids growing up playing basketball tend to prefer jersey numbers of star players they see on TV. If star players haven’t worn 44 in 40+ years. That number is no longer associated with stars. It is associated with role players. It’s not a difficult concept to understand.
That's the thing, why does he have to conform to today's norm? It appears JG wants to be different, he's bringing back short shorts and bellbottoms, why not grab a number that none of the modern stars are wearing to reinforce he's a trendsetter?
He can be different. Doncic did it with 77. He’ll have to be that type of top tier player tho. If he ends up as a Brandon Ingram type the number won’t stick popularity wise.
Jalen Green will become no better than Tim Hardaway if he wears a lame number like 44. This petition must be stopped at all costs.
This has to be single-most juvenile controversy to ever come up with the Rockets. It sounds like something that would happen in high school... which is basically how old Green is. If he can't handle something this simple, the NBA Finals is likely not going to happen. FYI... your jersey number doesn't mean a f***ing thing.
I'll lay you odds that Jalen Green's jersey number will have no impact whatsoever on his net lifetime earnings... which will likely be well over $100 million.
Besides... he'll grab the #4 when it's available, then the #0 jerseys will be worth a fortune in 20 years if he's a Hall of Famer.
Really Doc? I wouldn't call it a controversy, just an opinion poll on a jersey number. Go have a cocktail and relax.
I'm with you OP. I appreciate players wearing larger numbers over the common, single-digit numbers like 3, 1, or 0. 30 is Curry's number 35 was KD's 41 was Dirk's 44 could be Green's 0 is lame, but I care more about fixing our uniforms. They're just so bad.
If Jalen Green cares that Shark44 doesn't feel like zero is a real number, then I don't want Green to be on this team.
This isn’t the topic of the conversation tho. 44 is a ugly and unpopular jersey number in basketball. That’s the only point I’m making. His career earnings are irrelevant to whether 0 or 44 is a better number lol. it’s strictly the image of the jersey. Growing up a kid wearing 44 was most likely at the end of the bench. The better players had first choice at jersey numbers. Everybody wanted to be like Ai, TMac, Melo, Lebron, Kobe. Nobody wants to be Frank Kaminsky.
House shouldn't be here holding #4 Wall shouldn't be here holding my favorite for Green #1 Thriller is a big Kobe and MJ fan, Tate holding #8 and Calvins #23 is retired. I'd like to see him try and reach out to Calvin to use his number and i'm sure Calvin would let him, and or buy Tates #8 I really don't like #0 either. Horry's old number is my favorite number growing up and i used it in every sport i played. #25, 1 over kobe. It looks good and clean. Pus if he chooses #25, Our retired banners one day will be 22(Clyde), 23(Calvin), 24(Moses), 25(Jalen)
