Im going out to get an X-Box live kit tommorrow and I found this on the web: http://www.xbconnect.com/faq.php Has anyone tryed this before and if so does it work well? I'd LOVE to play Halo over the net. I've only juust brought my X-Box so Im only just learning about what I can do with it.
I have used XBOX connect. It works well, but if you are planning to play Halo there, you had better be pretty good. They are brutal online and usually play in established teams.
Most likley its just a way to play against a few people over the net on another forums....a way to kill people you disagree with. Can you tell me this.....do I need any extra hardware aside from the Live kit? I have Broadband and an external modem.
Yea I play with that all the time. You don't need any hardware at all, just need I guess a LAN at home. I have internet connections in each room, so i plug my computer in one, load the program, and plug the xbox in other and i'm good to go. Really a lot of fun, I have some of my fraternity brothers meet up with me and we play together. We should do a clutchfans bbs game
You need a computer with internet access close to where you plan to play due to the fact that you connect to the games through your pc. I played with a friend who has Xbox live and had a lot of fun. Some guys you'll kill, and other times you'll get killed pretty bad, but it was the most fun I'd had playing Halo in a while.
Update: Got the Live kit....set it all up and it turns out my bloody Service Provider makes it difficult for me to use X-Box Live! I'd asked people who should know......I asked them a million times if I needed any extra hardware to get X-Box Live. They ALL said no. It turns out I need a $300 router!!! Im taking back the Live Kit (Which I think would have the be the biggest con going around) and I'll see if I can pick up one of these routers second hand or something. To say Im dissapointed is an understatement.
Telstra Bigpond (Australia). I found this on Google about the problem. I have no idea what it all means...I just know that it doesnt bloody work! If anyone here reads this, knows the problem and know a way for me to get around the problem I would be very greatfull for any help. ---Start--- If any of you have read the Xbox Live section on the latest issue of OAXM, you would know that they said there were constant problems using Bigpond Cable with Xbox Live. Having Bigpond Cable already myself (locked into an 18 month contract) and wanting to get Xbox Live I investigated and emailed OAXM, they replied: "We tested Bigpond Cable through the Internet Connection Sharing method, which at the time was the only method possible with Bigpond Cable. Under that connection, the data transfer speeds will always slow down intermittently, often to a point that games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein wouldn't even accept our entry into a game. " Both the Xbox Live team and Bigpond say that you *must* use a router with Bigpond cable and Xbox live, so it was OAXM's method and not the service itself (although the service is obviously the reason why it doesn't work with Internet Connection Sharing) that was the problem. I've contacted others with Bigpond Cable and Xbox Live and they say it works fine. Basically your only option is a router with the heartbeat client built in because you also cannot connect directly from the modem to the Xbox. Netgear make a few with this capability: http://www.netgear.com.au/ So don't get locked into a contract with them unless you can come up with the money to buy a router and don't think that just because you may already have Bigpond cable that you can't get Xbox Live... ---Finish---
My friend bought a router so we could play online, thats the only way i know how you can do it, dishing out the money for a router is a whole other story, at the time we played it enough where we got the value outta it, but we havent played in awhile, waiting on Halo 2
Thats my problem. Im taking the XBox Live kit back to the shop tommorrow....so I have $100 there I can use. Im not to keen on spending about $300 on a router though. Especially when it might not work. The frustrating thing is everything is working and on XBConnect I actually saw other names pop up on my multi player system link game I started but it didnt start (It said there was a network error or something) and my net connection packed it in completely and I had to restart my computer.
My friend's 15 year old son plays it online... I consider myself pretty decent at the game, and he destroys me. And he gets destroyed online.... but he has friends who also have xbox live, so they mostly just play each other, I think...
Tools --> find my xbox. You have to find your xbox within the xbconnect program prior to joining or hosting a game. Obviously to do so, you need to have 2 internet connections available, ie. with a router.
