It’s not necessarily a “guard” league, but it’s predominantly a “perimeter” league. Bigs that can move rather fluidly and shoot from outside are the exception to the rule.

Absolutely right. The MJ Bulls won their first championship after they got center Bill Cartwright to anchor their defense and who played an integral part in in their offense. Kobe and Wade didn't get their rings until Shaq came to play with them. If bigs like Shaq, Dream, Duncan, the Admiral, Ewing, Moses, etc. came to the league would people still say that it's a guard's league? There is just the absence of dominant bigs that it seems that the league has evolved. But even then, the post has got it right considering the absence of the dominant big men. After all, basketball is truly a team sport, just ask those who have won rings.

How many big men have led a team to a championship? The keyword here is "led".
I've counted maybe 7-8 times in NBA history. Not nearly as many as guard led teams.

This. The NBA is positionless. It is more about "skill-set." What Reeko points out is that PLAYMAKERS & SCORERS (regardless of position) rule the league. They are the CLOSERS late in games. It is the most important skill. To score and to do it EFFICIENTLY and in HIGH LEVERAGE MOMENTS.

Even as amazing at Giannis is....(and he has admitted this) late in games he wants Middleton to take over. Why? Because of the above.

Yeah this strategy will set us back and get someone fired. If it does, you'll probably backtrack or start making excuses

The Suns and Bucks and Lakers prove midget ball doesn’t work.
No scenario happens where you win when PJ Tucker is your center and you have zero post game or shot blockers

I never said anything about "midgetball." I was talking about scorers and playmakers as a skill set. midgetball isn't a skillset.

So Mobley is the next Giannis?

Why not wait for next year when the real front court stars arrive?

Real sketch to read this after all the CP3 threads last week.

How funny if PHX bounces back, but then it will be because of Ayton.

Why do we need to wait to next year we can just pick the best guy and still do that next year.

Mobley would still be the best frontcourt guy in next years draft, something you seem incapable of admitting.

I can realistically say the real backcourt stars are in next year's draft so what then?

    I think thats 100% it.

What has happened is a lot of bigs have been told to play more like guards, this is just harder for them because the taller/bigger you are, the slower you react and the slower you are. So you won't ever EVER have a big with handles like CP3 or Curry...but if a big has the handles of a forward? That's big...but also rare.

We have to back to emphasizing that its okay for bigs to be dominant in the low post again and I think you'd start to see more big man stars emerge. I hope that Embiid and Jokic are showing that you can still have a team's offense centered around a big man.

Yeah I agree, Wade was really that dude. He played bigger than his size. I guess if Lebron was guard sized he'd be a lot like Wade with more playmaking ability. He'd still be a beast.

I think it's known as a guard league, because all of the rules being passed favor the guards, and punish the front court players. Gone are the days when Hakeem, Barkley, Ewing, etc... and other front court players could simply backup their defender with muscle. Now with the touch fouls, it benefits guards the MOST.

So it's a guard league because the rules are geared towards one type of player over another type of player.
