Is he injury prone or is he just sitting out this week b/c most good players on teams set in their records are.
Siakam is a different case cuz he is on his original team. https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2020/11/nba-maximum-salaries-for-202021.html You are right Wood would be eligible for a 30-35M deal when his current deal expires, but by the same token the real max guys would also be worth 40M+ so my original point remains that Wood's max is still a lot less than the "true" max. I think his statistical production is already worthy of a max on the open market (see Brandon Ingram) but the problem he would have to answer is his health and durability. Dude missed like half the season for various reasons.
he’s not a different case...Wood getting a max from us would be like Siakam getting his max from Toronto...we can offer Wood the most money and years just like how Toronto could do the same with Siakam his max is still much more than he’s worth...maybe he is worth his max if u only look at his box score stats, but when it comes to impact, he’s nowhere close to being a 30+ mil/yr player
Well yeah right now he isn't worth the max simply because he missed half the season. But like you said it'll only happen 3 yrs from now right? Ideally he'll be much better then to be worth the max. You are simultaneously talking about his future cost but basing it on his current performance which isn't a fair comparison imo. C. Wood's max RN is in the 20-25 range based on the link I gave you but he got a deal around 15M a year and when healthy is def worth 20-25M a year so right now he is worth his max salary if we disregard his missed games. in 3 years when his max would be 30-35M he should be a lot better than he is today otherwise he won't get his new max cux people expect more from a 30M guy than they do with a 20M guy.
he has 2 years left on his deal Wood’s max right now is not in the 20-25 mil range...there is no such thing as a max in a range that low if Wood was a free agent this offseason, the lowest he could get as his max is a 4/121 deal from another team going up to as high as 5/163 if he re-signed here since the cap is projected to have a slight increase...the lowest starting salary for a max deal in the very link u provided is 27 mil, Idk why u keep bringing up 20-25 mil...that link says nothing about a 20-25 mil/yr max because it doesn’t exist
Christian Wood is a dude who has worked his ass off to improve his game and is still evolving. If he can toughen up his frame, he could be a really productive player for another ten years in the league. Max level? Maybe. He has the potential. Is he there right now? Of course not.
Ben DeBose on a recent podcast was highlighting that pre ankle injury, Wood was playing quite well. Alluding to the fact that.... It seemed like after return, while Christian was feeling better, he still had soreness. So he may not have been entirely 100%. The rest he'll get off-season may get him back to where he was. If he can gel with the point guards (or point forward/point center). Have that lob threat again. Other notes of improvement is free throw and defense. The comment about max player may be slightly off putting. But still, taking a step back, he's still one of Rocket's better players, better have him than not.
No one would trade him if u get Cade, I would trade him if I got mobley tho. Simple fact, you not winning a ring if Wood your 2nd or best player. That's just fact
If I’m Stone I offer Wood a 4 year $100mil extension and see if he bits. He’s not worth anymore than that
Unfortunately his lack of defensive ability will keep him for being a max player. And while he does get rebound I wouldn’t exactly say he’s a beast on the boards. But the kid is a 6’10 walking 20-10 easy and those players aren’t easy to find.
