I dunno, it seems believable. Remember his current salary, I know posters here are often delusional about the value of our players - I'm not calling him a max player. But I think a lot of teams could really use a player like him at only 13mil.
There hasn't been one reputable source that has mentioned rockets getting any kind of legitimate trade offer for him. It's one thing to present it as a possibility or idea, it's another to say it oh they had these offers but they declined
It makes no sense for him to ask for overpay contract because of ugliest winning record. Did Wood know Tilman has a tight budget? Did Wood want to win a championship for Rockets? If yes, the lower salary the better. Trade him? The early the better. Nobody is offering anything for expiring contract.
It would take a substantial offer for me to trade Christian. But, I definitely see the value of being open minded about it...especially when his presence could prompt ownership to try an impatient/unhealthy short cut. If Wood (plus a 1st , MAYBE even a little more) could somehow be flipped into the 2nd or 3rd pick.....Evan Mobley....I'd be on board. Total commitment to the rebuild.
He needs to improve his game and be able to play 70+ games a year, and be good on a team that is winning to get a max. Easier to shine during a season with no pressure to win.
The highest bidder could be the Rockets... just saying. The most important thing is that things change fast. We could have a 2 year rebuild, or a 10 year rebuild. KPJ just put up 50 tonight. Would you have guessed we would get Wood in the last offseason or KPJ for nothing? Stone has said he would trade picks for talent. If this rebuild goes fast, then you'll probably want Wood.
I think it would be a HORRIBLE move to trade C. Wood. Although he's 25, he hasn't played a lot of basketball. This is really his first full year, so he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear. He's just now gaining experience. With this off-season and next yr, I think he's going to be a BEAST
If Christian Wood wants to be more durable. He needs Muscle, and add some weight. Anthony Davis bulked up a lot since his Rookie Year. Unfortunately he still gets injured.
That is just not accurate - there are lots of teams that turn around quickly, when we got Harden it turned things around after Yao.......now will we be a CONTENDER - probably not, but if we are in the playoffs and getting better year after year, that is good enough. Lebron has personally rebuilt 3 teams overnight. DD
The only thing that will keep Wood from Max money is his health- As long as he stays on the court we should see improvement- Will The Tilman fork out max money though????
I'm fine with a max to Wood, especially if he improves on D. My guess is he adds some bulk this offseason. He's still pretty wirey and I wouldn't be surprised if he can put on 10-15 lbs without it impacting his quickness. So in 2 years, when both Wall and Gordons salaries fall off, you give Wood a 5 year $160ish deal for potentially a top 5 center? Yeah...im good with that.
