Fixed one pipe burst, but there's another one that I don't think I can do anything about. Looks like I'll be one of millions to need a plumber....or at least access to the equipment needed to fix it. Something that basically doesn't exist in stores right now.
A transformer blew in the neighborhood (in Copperfield) on Sunday night. 61 hours before power was restored. There was little to no cell service also. Power went out again after an hour. Thankful for no burst pipes here though at least 3 houses on this block had some. Stay safe everyone!
My uncle's power has been out since Sunday night, still hasn’t come on, he’s got 2 kids and 65+ hours without power. Then my wife's mother's pipes busted, the entire first floor is flooding, she's taking care of her sickly mother too. Insanity. My power is coming back on about once every 3 or so hours, but it's only staying on for 10-20 minutes each time.
I've heard the rumors, too. I started collecting my dripped water in bins, really only for cleaning use (dishes/toilets). I filled a toddler tub of water prior in case I had to shut off the water myself. I have plenty of bottled water for drinking and cooking.
My electricity kicked on around 1230 in Friendswood, then they cut the power a few minutes ago. Hoping it’s rolling but I’m not holding my breath. I re-upped my fixed electricity last week at .062c. It's now pushing .10c. Electricity rates track natural gas in TX. Make sure you take pictures of any food you have to throw out. I've gotten reimbursed from Centerpoint before for their ****-ups that led to lost food. They have a form online but it redirects to their alerts page right now.
Actually, everything I read was that nat gas fell off a cliff in terms of what we depend on it, and that's coming from ERCOT themselves : https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02/16/natural-gas-power-storm/
FYI : This is true in parts of North Texas, too. I'd be saving up water in tubs and jugs ... just in case.
The guy my parents finally got ahold of went to Home Depot and couldn't find any pipe to fix their burst pipe, so he's going to put a temporary fix in for now.
There are some mid-level apartments (at least 3) that I know are having sprinkler problems. My mail never got delivered for 3 days, ofc I don't care, but I expect a lot of mail will have major delays. Time to go home, by night it will be a nightmare to go home.
Pretty much this. Most of these people pissed at ERCOT are just frustrated. Rightfully so, because it sucks not having power when it’s like 8 degrees and multiple days below or right around freezing. But there’s a pretty common lack of understanding how Texas generates power in winter time.
Looks like my Covid test was positive. Frustrating because I was careful as hell. Getting dialysis in the hospital.
I'm really sorry to read about all this. You think you got the virus while getting a dialysis treatment? Hang in there. I hope you're not having to stay in the 43-degree house.
That sucks. Let us know when you get better. Obviously if you're getting dialysis that puts you in a high risk group. You'd think they would be super careful about that.
