ERCOT out here pulling a Robinhood. whae a sh** show. almost 24 hours now without power. took fridge food to the garage. It’s 34 in there. and freezer food outside. 18. Better than it being 40-50 and rising in here.
It's all about what the infrastructure is set to deal with. You can build to tolerate extreme cold or you can build to tolerate extreme heat, extreme humidity, and extreme tropical storms. A lot of the time what helps in one scenario is awful in another. Also when you have a large state with 1/7th the population of the Houston metro area, the energy needs are different.
Power went out again luckily I still had my room reservation not putting up with this ****. all night.
So after all my troubles decide to drive the family to my moms 45 mins away, pull up and the lights are out at her place, she calls me as I'm pulling in and tells me lights just went out LOL Drove another hour to my aunts... so far power is on.
My cellular is somewhat working again!! Yay. We built a cot in the living room by the fireplace. It’s like 50 degrees in the bedrooms.
I was going to go stay at my parents. But then my mom mentioned she’s been feeling under the weather. This storm + COVID is dangerous.
100% If our heat weren't out since Friday we would have hunkered down and waited. We have an immune-compromised child and haven't been to another family member's house since the start of it all, but we had no choice, wish we had a fireplace like yall. Stay warm brother.
Thermal pants and wool socks are keeping us warm right now. Gas fireplace is on low, and we’re pretty comfortable without power. Drove around and saw hotels are packed right now. Good luck to you all tonight.
Was hoping my power would come back on but it’s going on five hours now. Ready to roll this outage down the line!
+1 on the good luck to everyone. Why do hotels and motels have power when residences don't? Seems like a family could check in and then just have their hotel lose power too.
I'm one of the lucky few in Austin that has had power + internet on all day. This is absolutely despicable how very little urgency was given to making people aware of this disaster outside of Space City Weather. A 1/3 to 1/4 of all Texas citizens are going to be sleeping in potentially sub freezing temp homes/apartments at the very least tonight and maybe even tomorrow night.
My son and I have been sitting in my car for two hours. Going to make sure he is tired before I go in. The way I’m parked I can see an entire apartment complex lit up in front of us. Tons of lights on etc. good times!
My mom is in the middle of a house remodel and she’s staying at one down the street from me. It loses power at the same time as we do. Do some have back up power? Highly doubt it. If anything, this serves as a reminder to be prepared for when s#%* hits the fan. Generator, fuel, food, ammo, are important during hurricanes.... But now in winter, this is an eye opening experience. Tbh, losing power in winter is much better than in the blazing hot summer during hurricanes. San Marcos blankets ftw.
Been without power since 2am last night. It’s 45 degrees in my house right now. This is some bull****.
