    I agree with DD.

JVG wouldn't play him and when he did it was at off guard....not with the ball in his hands up top.

Does anyone know why Vspan was always in Gundy's doghouse?

JVG was the wrong coach period. Dude was a terrible coach for us. We just got older and older with him. So much pressure on tmac and Yao to carry a heavy weight. I was so happy when he left and super excited when Adelman took over. I don’t think JVG could’ve coached that 08 team to 22 straight wins. I dont think he would’ve gotten us out the first round in 09

Well good thing Vspan didn't play for D' Antoni then. Vspan would have never seen the light of day either.

Yes. He was a slow turnover machine that couldn't pass or shoot. He shot 17% from three. SEVENTEEN PERCENT. His eFG% was 0.354. His assist to turnover ratio was 1.00. ONE. He committed a foul every 8 minutes he played. His PER was a 5. His VORP and win shares were negative. Matt Maloney was a monster by comparison.

...and yet he still managed to lead the team in turnover % despite this.

That wasn’t the issue. The issue was his coaching and putting it all on tmac and Yao. He was reluctant to use Vspan, Bonzi wells, Gerald green. He enforced Battier for Rudy Gay. He didn’t give anybody a chance to develope besides Yao and maybe Luther Head.

The guy played fewer than 300 minutes in his NBA career (most of them in garbage time), and you're out here talking about VORP?

Then Adelman came in and increased their minutes and they were both done within 2 seasons before age 30.

Seems like it was an issue!

He was terrible in games, preseason and practice (we actually verified this on the board at the time, somebody spotted a picture of a box score from the Rockets training camp scrimmages and he was apparently just as bad at shooting and ball handling behind closed doors as he was in games)

Instead however of trying to find some redemption, and getting a clean start at SAS when god worship of Pop and RC was at it's peak - he went home.

I mean imagine what people would say if instead of pouting this way to Brooklyn, James Harden retired and moved to California to open a strip club.

That's what he did. So I love these "woulda been a successful player" takes. All the evidence we have show his distinct lack of success and a fragile ego unable to deal with adversity.

This post made me feel 15 years younger, if only for a minute, and for that, I thank you.

I think JVG would be the wrong coach for anyone. I heard him once say "feed your star until he drops" - real offensive genius. Just a narrow minded coach. He also wrongly gets credit for Tom Thibodeaux's defensive contributions.

Hah, not at all - I thought what I thought, he left went back to the EU, had a good career - I move on fairly quickly.......And I am not bothered if others agree or disagree with me.....

Right now all I care about are the Rockets.
