Should you 'punish' your significant other for a major (non-infidelity) screw-up?

We had microwaves in the 70/80's. They were huge, but we had them.

eta: and honestly, ATW and @Yung-T, how am i supposed to take a country seriously if they subjected the world to this:

I'm not sure "punishment" would even work for a kid unless handled exactly right. No way it's working on an adult you're supposed to consider your equal. In both cases, I could absolutely just see it building resentment instead opposite of thoughtfulness and awareness.

I'm not going to offer an alternative, though, because I'm not married, and my last relationship ended partially because I was controlling. The book I was recommended is basically considered the bible of research-based marriage advice as I understand it, and what to do and not do is probably in there: The Seven Principles For Making Marriage Work by John Gottman

I recently had to help move a microwave that was bought in the late 70s or early 80s. It weighed a tonne. I was feeling the burn just from lifting it out from the built in cabinet.

Thanks for explaining exactly why I think this is absurd.

It's horrific! I'm going to have nightmares, assuming I'm ever able to sleep again.
