Yeah, I have been saying that Morey is not that great in drafting. My theory is that draft prospects don't have a lot of good data he can work with. Evaluation of a young prospect's potential involves a lot of subjective judgment. Morey, not being a career basketball person, lacks this instinct. He has to rely on traditional scouting. That puts him average at best in drafting. Like I said, draft picks are trade assets to Morey. It is more reliable to trade for a proven player with lots of data evidence than to bet on an unproven guy with a pick. In recent years, other teams have caught up with the utilizing of analytics and so the edge Morey used to have has diminished. But the good thing about him is that he does his homework and he is always ready to pounce on a deal when opportunity comes. He is also very creative in finding ways to make a deal work. We all suspect that his departure was largely due to ownership. I think he did some very un-Morey-like moves in the past two years that may serve as evidence his hands were indeed tied by TF.
Actually Daryl, think I'll stay here. Irony is you should cancel your account since you're a 76er now.
Of course, draft is a crapshoot. It took luck for the Warriors to get Curry, it took the dumb*** wolves passing on Curry...twice...if the Wolves were smarter, they draft Curry and the Warriors get Rubio or something and Myers doesn't look like a genius GM anymore. Still, I think some teams do draft better. The Heat come to mind, Nuggets too, raptors...will Ujiri seems to have a really great draft record no matter where he's picking. I do think Ujiri shows it's not all completely luck.
going back to stop posting would work too. trying to up your post count isn't working out well for you
100x this. while the data can track skills, it can't really say how those skills will translate to the NBA level AND...the will and heart of a player to get better, because a player, even the Zion's and Lebron's of the world, MUST get better. Giannis would be a decent role player if he never improved his game. Just some defensive big specialist you throw into games. He got better because he worked out, buffed up, improved his handling and passing and finishing, and made himself an elite player. You can't really put stats on that, you have to look into a guys background, speak to him, to really find that out. Beasley is a perfect example of this. All the talent and skill in the world and he just never improved from when he entered the league. Now he's a decent role player, a guy you throw in to score...he came into the NBA with scoring ability...never improved and never cared to improve so he is what he is.
with those teams a lot of that is just recent bias. they're relevant now but there wasn't any talk prior to how well they draft nor was anyone drooling over all their drafts. they have a bunch of guys not in the league as well and guys people never even heard of
Damn, outed again. You're good Daryl. 12 years not caring about post count by the previous guy is clearly out the window now that I took over this account. I hope to be close to 31k like you soon, cause you're cool Daryl. YOLO!
Great! Well he can take his analytics and small ball foolishness to Philly. Good luck winning a championship there with a centerpiece PG that can’t play offense and center who thinks he is a 2 guard. Hopefully he can gut that team and sell all their assets like he did with us! Lol best wishes!
You speak narratives, you dont speak in facts. And they are incredibly horrible bogus narratives. You've been saying out of pocket stuff for a while.
MDA doesnt make roster moves. And MDA certainly didnt want the Westbrook trade. The places he left, Suns, Knicks and Lakers were all dumpster fired themselves as organizations.
