I don't think the Rockets should base most of their offseason moves on zone Defense. I've heard a lot about Gasol's draft stock rising because of the zone, and the need to resign guys like Air Bull and Wizard (although we should resign them anyway) because of zone. I think it would be a huge mistake of the Rockets did do this. For one thing, the zone might not even survive a year before the old rules are brought back. And anyways, a lot of NBA teams play the zone anyways (try to find who Shaq is guarding during the championship). I remember Dallas playing a perimeter zone against the rox. It worked at first, but once the roxstarted driving the ball, every Mav got into foul trouble. I think we shouldn't be afraid of guys like Gerald Wallace because they can't play zone very well. ------------------ President of the Pete Chilcutt Fan Club.
SuperS32,I think we should resign Bullard with the veteran exception, but Walt Williams still has one year left on his contract. I agree with you that we shouldn't look for players that only fit the zone. The zone will lead to lower scores and might be eliminated later. ------------------
We may not ever see the zone in a regular season game. After they implement the rules in the summer leagues and see how ridiculously low the scores are they'll go back to the old rules and any team that made a great deal of roster moves to coincide with the zone will be screwed. ------------------
Man, one can only hope... ------------------ The season's over, but the 'Stros have started. Guess I'm still gonna be nursing that keg...
