I can get his frustration. His good buddy pitched the game of his life and was taken out because Hinch thought 80 pitches was too many for him. Then after gearing up to pitch in Game 7, Cole played no part in the biggest game of the season.

I get that he is mad.

But when you're asked for an interview and your first response is "I'm unemployed"... That's the sign of a guy that said "**** this team" a long time ago.

It was really immature and disrespectful; no matter how angry you are about losing the biggest game of your career and not getting to pitch, keep it together Cole.

He dressed quickly after the game, hoping to jet out, to put the upsetting loss behind him. He also wanted to avoid questions about his upcoming free agency. Eligible players can file for free agency one day after the World Series, but Cole began acting like his relationship with the Astros was over.

A cluster of media migrated toward Cole. Cole loudly cussed, unhappy about the looming obligation.

Astros players regularly head over to stand in front of a clubhouse wall that is painted with the team logo and designated for postgame interviews. Media relations director Gene Dias told Cole that he could give interviews in front of his locker and that “you don’t have to” do them in front of the wall.

“I don’t have to do it?” Cole replied.

“No,” Dias said, “you don’t have to do it over there.”

“I don’t have to do it at all?” Cole reiterated, more forceful, with dozens of reporters looking at him.

At first, Cole’s persistence seemed comical. It was understandable that a player on the losing end of Game 7 would not be thrilled to take questions.

But Cole held his glare. He was not kidding.

“I mean, I'm not employed,” Cole said. “I’m not employed.”

“We would like for you to do it, but it’s your call,” Dias said.

Cole grudgingly obliged and said: “All right, as an affiliate of myself.”

He wore a cap with the insignia of his agent, Scott Boras, who is expected to demand a contract worth more than $200 million for Cole this winter, while the Astros are expected not to match such an offer.

If you've followed the team all season and watched Cole's behavior you would have known that moment had everything to do with his disappointment in the loss. I know he has respect for the organization and fanbase. Just wrong time for a media visit.

Also... ****ing 8 outs man. It hurts even more hearing it coming out of Cole’s mouth. If Greinke gets Soto out he probably finishes the inning and you have Osuna and Cole to shut it down. Baseball is so mean.

I believe him, I'm glad he addressed it too.

Honestly, everyone... Team, fans, etc are pretty torn up about this loss, so I think we are all a little sensitive.

I get he didn't want to talk about it, I wouldn't have wanted to either.

I've settled down quite a bit since earlier today, and him addressing it helps calm my nerves.

Emotions were running hot, i do hope he comes back.

Hmm. Not sure how i feel about this. we us are fans are upset about the loss and we didn't even play...i highly doubt any of us would want to answer dumb questions from the media after a tough loss.

I get he didn't want to answer questions but I don't think talking about being unemployed was the right move..especially when you know you are about to be one of the highest paid players.

just give some BS answers for a few secs and walk away. Everyone knows you can be the best player on a team for 100 years and in the end people only remember the last thing you said.

That’s cool but he ain’t coming back and it’s not because of SoCal or NY.

It’s that Crane has already stated he’s not going over the luxury tax.

Writing has been on the wall.

If the Astros offered him the most money tom I’m sure he would sign.

But we won’t and he’s not taking a discount just like no superstar in any sport does and u don’t blame him.

After seeing cousins and Kd get injured and although KD still got paid cousins lost 100s of millions.

    Get your money.

We love sports but this is a job for these guys and it’s not for very long in the grand scheme of life these guys have 5-15 years to make money that hopefully will last them for the rest of their life.

If a player wants to take a pay cut to play for a certain team? That’s great but ill never get mad at any player going for the most money possible.

People just need to leave the athletes alone, especially after a gut wrenching loss.
