Lineup didn’t come through much, but JV has to be better. This was a winnable game but he put us in catch up mode early on. Let’s go win the next two and ride into the break on a high note.
This lost was definitely on verlander tonight. Dude gives up wayyyy too many home runs and puts us in a hole early
First home loss vs the division this season (10-1) Verlander didn't play well and neither did the bats. Regroup and win the series. If not, that's cool too.
Verlander has to be better. Offense is still inconsistent but this is a game your ace should get. Hopefully he gets it straightened out.
It’s really frustrating how literally every single game verlander gives up a home run. I’m actually worried when playoff time comes. Yankees would hit at least three off him
Wow I just felt a long earthquake here in Southern California. 6.9 mag stronger than yesterday’s earthquake.
Six hits?! Wow. And what is up with Verlander, he has been less than dominant lately. Brantley is amazing, but he couldn't do it alone. Gurriel came through in the clutch, but it wasn't enough. Our big bats were silent. Disappointing loss.
Yep. Still love him and always will, but this is a VERY real problem. Missed my first game thread in a while due to travel, but I didn’t miss much. Brantley was in full beast mode, but one man can’t do it all by himself. Hats off to Gurriel for keeping his hot streak, but you said he (and Alvarez) failed to deliver in a key situation earlier. Brantley with 4/6 hits, pathetic (on the other guys). Alvarez sounds like he still needs work on some areas, and Robson is garbage. Need a starter, reliever, and backup catcher.
As great as Verlander is, he will not budge to anything. I think no one on the Astros have the strength to tell him how to pitch. His way, or no way. I don't watch all the innings because of work,or family matters, I don't think I have seen pitching coach Strom go to the mound during a game when he pitches. Even when Verlander was 25-9 (Tigers), he gave up a total of 24 HRs in a season and his strikeout ratio was 1 per inning. This year, he has given up 23 HRs and with 3 months left in the season. And strikeout ratio is 1.5 Ks per inning. He is falling in love with K pitches instead of managing pitches. Sometimes walking a batter is better than giving up HR. His walks are way down it is because he rather K you than walk you. In his career with the Tigers, he has never had a strikeout ratio abnormally high. I would never trade anyone for him, but padding K stats is not winning.
The stands really did a number on us again. If the ball doesn't bounce in there, another run scores, Then, 2 men on 2nd and 3rd no outs. Win these next 2 and it's all good.
Maybe the fans and the booth are overly fascinated with strike out stats and such, but I very much doubt the players are. IMO, Verlander is just having command issues.
