"If you thought that was bad, instead of 4 years, $80M, we're gonna double down & give 4 years, $160M!"
Morey didn't learn from his Ryno contract lesson. I guess we all gotta chip in and eat more at Bubba Gump!
Worst deal in the history of the NBA? Think bigger. Surely it's got to the be the worst deal in history, period. For example, the U.S. bought Alaska from Russia for roughly $110 million in today's dollars. Tilman could have bought Alaska and had $50 million left to spend instead of paying CP3. Somebody hurry and add it to the top of this list.
Why even have contracts in today's NBA, when players can just strong arm their way out of a contract to the team of their choosing two years before the end of said contract? What is a contract other than a tether on teams who get tricked into an albatross?
As far as % of salary cap, I'd say from my memory Gilbert Arenas max contract from the wizards still takes the cake. 6 years, max, not only injured but turning up to practice waving around guns..... yeah CP3 might be overpaid but far from worst. Might need to tone down on the hyperbole there.
Because there are 10 other threads about that same topic, there another one or two created just today
Stupid thread. Nothing insightful. Nothing that couldn’t have been added to one of the 30 existing CP3 threads.
No way to know without knowing what deals we missed out on because ryno was untradeable last two years, it is my belief the ryno contract prevented us from getting a solid all star level talent, someone who would have helped us win game 6 or 7 and we otherwise would have a banner. That contract made no sense then and makes no sense today , CP3s still made sense then and is TBD overall. That whole summer was full of bad max contracts , thought Morey was better at planning.
Doling out money is okay, but the way their production or health decreased drastically shortly after they signed it, is most perplexing.
